Season Ticket Renewals - small increases (again)

Come on blues. We've just witnessed the best footballing season this country has ever seen. EVER!
Our owner ploughs nearly every penny earnt throughout the season straight back into the club. Other clubs owners skim money from their club every season.
The price increases amount to a pound or 2 per game. But at least we know it's all going towards improving the club..

People will call me a happy clapper. But I just think a bit of perspective is needed.

I find that a bizarre way of looking at it. Im’ increase of a pound or 2’. 50 quid pretty much every year for the last 8 or so isn’t a small increase for most people.

Because of these so called small increases lots of fans have been priced out

The reason why Pep is here is because of Ferran Soriano and Txiki Begiristain. Together with the Chairman (and supporting teams) they provide the most stable and able management in world football. They have brought unprecedented success to our club. The plan is to continue to do so. They have also invested in Manchester. No individual is perfect but is there any other foursome that could have done better?

No there isn't, in the whole of world football, I reckon.

Along with on-field success Soriano is also responsible for the club's finances, and ticket pricing is part of that. That's the harsh truth: he has to maximise revenue whilst still getting bums on seats. He would argue that the club price cup games very competitively to give lower income fans a chance to get to games.

I'm not giving them a free pass, because the big chance to get a good balance was the opening of the South Stand Extension: that should have been the singing end with ultra cheap tickets.

As an aside, did I see earlier that the club have cut the costs on "pitch-side" seating? That's a good idea because those front rows are dreadful.

What will approx £700,000 do to improve the club? We could probably sign up a new tooth pick partner and it will give us more money.

It's a fucking piss take again, yet so many City fans just happy to sit there and eat it up. "Ooh only £20 can't complain because the footballs so good" What a load of bollocks.

Mine has gone up £20 which is nothing in the grand scheme of things, and as I do the 10 Direct Debits I'm not sure I'll notice the £2 extra coming out of my bank account a month as I've been known to put more than that in a jukebox on the weekend.

But where does it end? They've got us completely by the bollocks here knowing that most people are so emotionally invested that they won't give it up.

10 years ago this article was released: https://www.theguardian.com/football/2009/feb/10/manchester-city-reduce-ticket-prices

With the line from the club being -

Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak said: "Our season-card holders are the cornerstone of this club and, since arriving here, we have listened to their feedback and their concerns on a great range of issues. By pushing back the date for season-card renewals we hope to make some small difference to the supporters who follow the team every week.

"We have also sought to respond to fans' concerns on pricing and hope that the price freezes in some areas and discounts in most areas of the ground will be welcomed."

When did they stop listening to their feedback? The increase in season ticket prices is probably going to give the club less than an extra £1m, so it's not exactly a game changer as far as balancing the books is it?

Put it out today when everyone's brain washed about Paul Dickov scoring a goal 20 years ago and no one will bat an eye lid.
Excellent post, Liam.

I’m absolutely fucking sick of price hikes, and they’re always MILES above the rate of inflation.

They are a bunch of piss takers, just for this particular issue (nothing else). They do themselves no favour whatsoever. I don’t care if that goes against the skipping-through-a-field-of-flowers “aren’t Manchester City brilliant?!” mood that the forum or fanbase as a whole gets when we win stuff.

There’s no need for this shit!

I was watching a team that won the title in 2012 when my ticket cost £525, it’s now £820 watching the same thing. We had the same aims as a club then as we do now. We might be better but that’s not a justification for the hikes every year.

Absolutely nothing in any other area of life has gone up that much in percentage price. Not gas/electric, council tax, water, petrol, car insurance/tax, phone bill... nothing!

Inflation hasn’t been above 2.1% at all since 2012, so in what way do City justify and think it’s acceptable to increase seasoncards from anything between 3.5-12.5% each season in that same timeframe?

The Cup runs and trips to Wembley have fucking ruined me this season and I’m now having to live the life of a Hermit for the Summer because I’ve borrowed money and extended my overdraft so I could afford it all. And my thanks for that is another 3.5% increase on my seasoncard.

You’re spot on when you say they’ve got us over a barrel because we are emotionally invested. After following us through the dark times I don’t want to miss what’s going on now so I’d probably get myself into debt to afford to see it all. But that’s not healthy whatsoever! And there’s no “nobody is forcing you” argument, the emotional investment negates that point.

That's why is wasn't announced earlier though mate. Those end of season interviews they do now might as well be done from North Korea. They don't consult the fans about anything these days. People will defend it though because our owners are rich and the team is fantastic.

I agree. In previous end of season interviews, Bailey has asked Khaldoon about season ticket prices/increases and so he has been made to address the issue and the opportunity to question him about it was there, but the timing of this year's interview before this increase was announced seems hardly coincidental. I am unaware of whether any feeback from Supporters Groups was taken into account before next season's prices were announced but the club obviously feels (whether rightly or wrongly) that the increases are not prohibitive.
