Seat Counters - 2024/25

Like me, some fans aren't going out of principal.

I refuse to fill the coffers of the FA and Wembley stadium, which has now been paid for, for a FA Cup - semi-final.

That used to be the FA's excuse. We have to pay off the construction cost of the new Wembley stadium. The FA don't anymore, but they still expect fans from the North to traipse to Wembley twice for a FA Cup - semi-final, and a possible FA Cup - final.
I was exactly the same until yesterday and I bottled it and got 3.

Thanks.

I'll have a look at that.

But it isn't up to the fans to pay off the FA's debts. The FA have got themselves into a financial mess. The FA need to sort that out themselves. It's a shame fans in general don't know about that FA's remaining debt.

The Football Association (FA) has completed repaying the debt for Wembley Stadium. The final debt repayment was made in 2024. The stadium's construction, which cost £757 million, was funded through a loan, which the FA has since repaid.

Key points about the payment:
  • Repayment: The FA's remaining debt was fully repaid by 2024.
  • Debt Reduction: After refinancing the loan in 2015, the FA had £142 million remaining debt, which was cleared by 2024.
  • Financial Impact: The completed debt repayment will allow the FA to reinvest £2 million to £3 million annually, previously used for interest payments.
The stadium is a subsidiary which has massive debt, the majority to the FA.

The FA doesn't have the debt the WNS Ltd does. The newspapers mislead how they reported it.

I don't think it is up to fans to get the stadium in the black, nor is it likely or possible without flogging it. I also wouldn't criticize anyone for not going for whatever reason, and think it is out of order that some do without attending every game themselves. It is just one game, and I am glad it is well short of selling out.

It is Economics - the scarcity of resources and the unlimited nature of human wants and needs - and up to everyone how they spend their own money. It isn't for some super fans who hardly goes away to call people out.

Ok about that status quo dirge, although I’d just about prefer to hear it after a win than a defeat

After the last FA Cup lift I left, like a lot of other City fans did. I couldn't stomach the cheese fest blasting out on the speakers. Each to their own. I'm sure a lot of fans don't mind that and want to see the players celebrating on the pitch in-front of the fans afterwards.

Thanks for that info. I'll have a look at it over the weekend.

The Wembley of the North can't come soon enough. ;-) Arf!

I am pretty sure you are a home and away regular jrb? I know loads of lads who are decades long home and away regulars who can’t be arsed with Wembley for a semi final, and their Blue integrity is completely intact, as is yours

I've been to Wembley plenty of times and feel privileged to have been able to do so, but to be honest, it's getting more and more expensive at a time when the cost of living is continuing to rise. The price of a ticket, travel and expenses on the day are the equivalent to having a week abroad in some places.

I don't blame any City supporter for not going, and 27,000 going down is an excellent number considering the amount of times we've been in the last fifteen years.

I really don't follow this argument. The FA have spent a fortune redeveloping Wembley. It remains an under-utilised stadium. So why not use it? Semi-finals were usually at Villa Park and Hillsborough. Clearly Hillsborough is no longer 'fit for purpose' and Villa Park isn't that big and no easier to get to than Wembley from most of the country.

Where else? Anfield and the new Everton stadium are out on a limb. Newcastle and all the South Coast venues similar. Old Trafford is a midden. Leicester has a 33,000 capacity. Elland Road?, Pride Park?, etc., etc. are clearly not suitable. Any of the London venues can also be ruled out.

Anyone running a cup competition who owned an under-utilised 90,000 capacity stadium would clearly be bonkers to to leave it empty and then hire a 33,000 to 40,000 capacity ground for semi-finals even if it could only fill 70,000 of those seats. That is regardless of whether the FA have paid for the Wembley rebuild.

The FA own Wembley Stadium and will continue to use it for Semi-finals. So you can continue to piss into the wind and sit at home sulking, but it will not change anything.

Let’s play the quarters there as well then.

Hi there. Does anybody now which blocks are not full and seats left? Managed to get sorted with some tickets in block 543 but up very high. If there are free seats hoping to get down a bit lower. Anyone know what view like from up there? Thanks

Unfortunately a lot of truth here.

Where exactly would a neutral ground for our game be, Villa Park?

With segregation the capacity would be down to about 38k!

You can't just say play every game at the Swamp.
Apart from anything else it would trigger comments from southern club fans similar to those we make having to trek to London.

What can be done though is sensible and considerate ko times and even better transport options instead of putting hundreds of fucking coaches on!

Thanks.

How the hell an organisation like the FA can accrue that much debt is beyond me.

It's basically like a Charity operating but with huge debts.

It can only be down to 1 reason, corruption, snouts in the trough!

What do they have to fund, surely they only spend what it's members pay them?

Pretty sure that block sold out

It's slightly odd that they stopped selling tickets for this on Friday yet the game isn't until Sunday afternoon and given that the ticket goes straight onto your mobile phone I wonder why.

Could be down to the S/T launch?

A bit silly if so or, it could be a decision out of our hands, the FA perhaps.

I was up that high once for the fa cup semi final against Chelsea. The view is great but personally I prefer to be on the first tier as being so far away from the pitch I didn't feel part of the game, if that makes sense?

I assume it’s for policing/security/segregation reasons? To give them time to plan ahead etc?

Having done both I agree. You can read the game better from up top but definitely feel like you’re a million miles away from the game.
