Sept 23rd 1989

The anniversary will be overlooked this year due to yesterdays fantastic performance.

But, no matter how many great derby victories we may have over the next few years, that 5-1 victory will always be in my top 3 derby wins of my lifetime

The irony is, is that MOTD were using it last night as proof that 24 years ago, GPC got a drubbing in this very Derby, "and we all know how that finished!"

Not much about the fact that we nearly gubbed them by the same score on virtually the same day.

Incredible Spindoctormanship from Trafford Borough.

a poem I made about the day;

the day that City fans will always remember,
was the 23rd day of September,
when Man Utd came to Maine Rd,
we were in for a hiding or so we were told,
but nobody told them about our young team,
the kind of side one can only dream,
all the boys played out of their skin,
urged on by the fans and manager Machin,
Oldfield and Morley scored in quarter of an hour,
after utd thugs had turned the game sour,
then Bishop scored the 3rd before half time,
which left utd with a mountain to climb,
then had the interval we all had a drink,
wondering what they'd write in the Football Pink,
then Beardsmore crossed for Hughes to score,
but shortly after Oldfield made it 4,
the best one of all was the fifth goal,
with Bishop and White playing a starring role,
crossing for Hinchliffe to score with a bullet,
who needed players like Ruud Gullitt,
wheres all the utd fans the kippax shouted,
all gone home, well and truly routed.

That's great, SWSB.

It almost brought a tear to my eye.

24 years ago! Christ it seams like yesterday. Just thinking I remember so much about that day.
15 years old with my dad and uncle in the Claremont.
The united team bus driving past and the pub half emptying to welcome them with ashtrays, pint pots.
Kicking off in the north stand and the whole of the main stand singing 'your the shit of Manchester' as the scum were escorted past into the the platt lane corner.
Paul lake absolutely running the show.
Getting bladdered on thunderbirds that night.

Sniff

Love it!

That derby win is in my top 1.
I will never ever forget that day as long as i live. Like most blues I genuinely expected us to be driven into the dust.
What followed was sheer magical, joy and euphoria.
I can honestly and genuinely say that if I had died in my bed that night I would have died one very, very happy man.
That game sticks in my memory like no other.

I was there!!!

The Kippax was mental that day!!!!!

My second City game ever!!!

I talked to my mate and the guy sat next to him had 10 quid on Aguero first goal and a 5-1 victory!!!!!! Dzeko cost this bloke almost 1,000 quid!!!!
