Sergio Aguero - 2016/17 performances

I'm a fan from Indiana in the US where it is Super Bowl Sunday, so apologies in advance for the analogy, but the Aguero/G. Jesus situation reminds me a lot of Peyton Manning.

Manning was the star quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts and in the discussion for best of all time, when the Colts got the 1st pick of draft & chance to take Andrew Luck. Luck was projected by many to be a once in a lifetime type talent and everyone knew the Colts HAD to take him. The Colts chose to draft Luck & get rid of Manning so Luck could be the starter.

Manning would go on to win the Super Bowl with his new team while Luck, though a really good player, has been unable to lead the Colts to the same degree of success as they had become accustomed to with Manning.

Long story short, City has the striker of the future in Jesus and he will be great, but we should be VERY careful before giving up on the legend that is Aguero...chances are we'd come to regret it.

We are hardly going to say he's up for sale are we?

All part of the dance that happens around these big transfers

Will be interesting to see if we get in a like for like replacement ie a world class striker or go for someone who can play any of the front three roles

I think we'll go for Sanchez personally

Selling him would be stupid on a number of levels

1. We need more than one main striker.......we have suffered for a couple of seasons on an over reliance on Sergio...sell him and we will be over reliant on G. Jesus. - Keep them both play them together or play one or the other based on situation.

2. GJ has started like a house on fire. But we have to expect that (as with all young players) there could potentially be a dip in form and this could go on for a few seasons...GJ is really young and he has lot to learn (Pep has said this) - who better to learn from - I also liked the comments by Kun that he wants to learn from GJ - this shows a real level of humility and an openness to challenge.

3 Sergio is still one of the best finishers in the business. We missed numerous chances vs Swansea (GJ missed a couple himself) All strikers go through dips in form but you can guarantee that at some point Sergio will regain this and we need to be the beneficiaries of this.

4 Play them together....the potential there is just frightening! - With GJ movement and work rate and Sergios power and finishing they as a pair could absolutely terrify defences..between them they have everything. It takes time for partnerships to develop...lets give it time for this to happen. Sergio has a couple of good seasons left in him....the next tw with him and GJ playing together could be electric.

5 it could really benefit Sergio having GJ around....we know that overplaying him leads to injuries....therefore having GJ around means less likelihood of getting injured as we can rotate........

I don't know if that quote has potentially been lost in translation or not, but if it's accurate that all but confirms he has been asked to do something different and explains the meeting on Deansgate.

I don't think, from Guardiolas perspective, that he's dynamic enough to play how Pep wants. I think he's asking him to do something that isn't his natural game and looking at that quote, I don't think Sergio sees why he should have to.

Of course it could be the context is different, I'd need to read the whole thing.

Nah...I have been told on here it was just a meal....

Fuck sake can everyone calm down. Few sensationalist reports and people now taking about selling him.
Pep clearly rates him, played him whenever he could before but then a new young guy comes in and is on a run, that's the end of it. Nevilles 'writing on the wall' comment is almost as laughable as people actually believing it.
A couple months ago we were talking about his improved work rate and fitting into the guardiola mould. He is an absolute legend and hopefully will be here for many years.

Aguero is just in a bit of bad form, he's a world class striker and he'll get his form back. Jesus is likely to have a lull at some point and we'll need Kun to pick things up. We can also play them together, with Jesus potentially wide instead of Sterling/Sane. The two of them could be special. I'd like to see Aguero be a bit less selfish in front of goal, he doesn't need to score every game to have a positive impact. A few assists will give him the confidence to get scoring again anyway.

The story is basically saying he 'could' quit 'if' he's not wanted. So the same situation as EVERY PLAYER ON THE PLANET.

Yes but Kun is one of the worlds best, so it is a big situation that they can run with to sell papers. We will have to see what will happen come the summer, if we did sell Sergio...who do we get in ?

Dybala ? Which would give us the youngest forward line in world football
