Sevilla (N) | UEFA Super Cup | Post-Match Thread

Great win against a very good, well organised team in difficult conditions.

Fuck me, there's some grumps on here at times. We've just won the European Super Cup!! Just in case you've forgot, you HAVE to have won either the Champions or Europa League to get a place in the final. If you lose the final, finish 4th in the league etc you don't get in it! ENJOY IT! It's the first one we've ever won!!

I thought we made hard work of it to be honest. I'm not sure about injuries but I wasn't a fan of the line up and I thought we should've played our strongest team and I'm not sure we did that tonight. Dias, Stones etc would definitely start unless they are injured. At times we were VERY lucky and Ederson pulled out some superb saves tonight.

I think the team will be delighted tonight, that was not an easy game at all.

ENJOY ANOTHER TROPHY AND ANOTHER BOTTLE OF CHAMPERS BLUES!!!!

FT: Man City beat Sevilla on penalties

Manchester City

Man City captain Kyle Walker to TNT Sports: "It was always going to be a tough game. The lads put in a good performance. We have to be more clinical but we got the job done.

"If anyone played with me they know I don’t like taking penalties because I don't like letting people down if I miss. Pep put me in at five. [I wanted to] show leadership. Luckily it went in and was the winning one."

On Cole Palmer: "This guy is incredible and he’s got good players to learn off and the best manager in the world. He needs to keep going, keep his feet on the floor like he has been and keep scoring goals. If he keeps improving he’ll be fine.

"Good teams capitalise on people’s mistakes. We rode our luck and we got there. There were tough conditions, everyone sweating, you can see it’s really hot.

"We've come away with this cup. To win this and put it in trophy cabinet at City is a good feeling."

Think it’s important to remember that that’s probably the first game in about 5 years that we’ve played with Gundogan, De Bruyne & Bernardo. That’s whole heap of experience and importance to replace.

They defended narrow & deep. Grealish not looking fully fit and trying Akanji is the 5/6 role it put heaps of pressure on 2 very young lads and Kovacic.

Thought Kovacic looked great, Rodri’s worst game for a long time. Ake isn’t suited to lone centre back.
Foden & Palmer grew into the game.

Some very interesting things from the game. Some things that need to improve.

Their right back was fucking mint.

Their centre forward always looks a handful and their left back is the most south american of south american defenders. He’ll be mint at Villa.
