I think he's brilliant full stop. Not the greatest actor you'll ever see, but I love his self-deprecating sense of humour. Years and years ago he was doing a sketch on one of the Noel Edmonds Saturday evening shows, and his role was to be a hotdog seller on a New York street. They showed an outtake where while he was waiting for a scene, a trucker drove up and ordered a hotdog. He didn't miss a beat, took the order, handed it over and just said that one was on him. Bloke had no idea who he was getting it from.

Funnily enough on that site there's a really touching story about his scenes with DeForest Kelley in Star Trek VI, suggesting that on location was when Kelley told him he was terminally ill (they were close friends) and how others there commented that Shatner's complete adoration of Kelley was extremely apparent on set.
