Shawcross

Oh he's negotiating a new deal so what do you think his agent will do? Plus he's a thug and the way referees treat us he'll be sent off every week....

Bringing in Shawcross, and letting Lescott go, wouldn't represent particularly good business for me.

If Shawcross is willing to become 3rd/4th choice of a contending team rather than 1st pairing on a mid-table team, and get a good pay raise doing it, it wouldn't be too bad. He's 5 years younger than Lescott, and wouldn't be on the wages Lescott is, either.

It makes a little more sense than Sinclair or Rodwell, IMO, not that I think there's any truth to the rumour to begin with.

Is he the ball playing centre half Bob craves?

Or is it purely down to finances.

Or is it simply a load of media bollocks from a lazy journalist still pissed from boxing day?

He only earns £28,000/week at Stoke, you could double that and he'd still be earning about £35,000/week less than Lescott. It depends if Mancini wants this sort of player in the squad, the typical bruiser who will win everything in the air. Stoke have the best defensive record in the league thanks largely to him (they fell apart without him today) but I got the impression Mancini wanted a squad full of players with good technical ability. He'd not be a first choice player because of Kompany but if we ever do get the hang of Europe and balancing 3/4 competitions at once a player like him could be crucial for those weekend clashes after tough mid-week games all season.
