Im hearing rumours that we are after him. Do we really need him?

If Shawcross is willing to become 3rd/4th choice of a contending team rather than 1st pairing on a mid-table team, and get a good pay raise doing it, it wouldn't be too bad. He's 5 years younger than Lescott, and wouldn't be on the wages Lescott is, either.
It makes a little more sense than Sinclair or Rodwell, IMO, not that I think there's any truth to the rumour to begin with.

Is he the ball playing centre half Bob craves?
Or is it purely down to finances.
