Sheff Wed (A) - FA Cup R5 - Pre-Match Thread

Of all four big games lined up back to back, this is the one I was most worried for in this run ... the Madrid game and the cup Final wouldn’t have needed motivation or getting up for it ... so won’t the Manchester derby next weekend ... it’s this ‘little’ game in between against Sheff Wed that stood out as the one that’d really need Pep making sure complacencies don’t creep in, especially after the Madrid away result and now the cup win.

It, in my eyes, is more important than the derby (I know in some fans’ eyes derby is the be all and end all but that’s the least important game of the four in my eyes) ...

Winning the Champions League is still far and away and ending the season with ‘just’ the League Cup and the Community Shield isn’t going to be a very good look. Add FA Cup to those two and perhaps a semi-final or final place in the CL and the season looks a lot more respectable ... winning CL would obviously even top the last season’s Four!

Hope that having lifted another trophy today and another medal round their necks and into their collection motivates them to go and fight for the FA Cup as well now. And fight it will be, it won’t be a walk in the park as it’s a Championship side away and they’d be well up for it no matter what their recent results might be or what their fans are telling us on here ... we however can understandably drop a 10% in our performance level given the last two games’ intensity and results ... and if we do that, it’ll be a a tough game that could go either way.

The Anfield ref and no VAR is an added something that’s been annoying me at the back of my mind for no reason (or perhaps very good reason) ... anyway, C’mon City ... we need this one (FA Cup) too, all the way!

Here’s how I think we’d lineup:

Bravo
Cancelo - Ottamendi - Garcia - Zinchenko
KdB - Doyle - Bernardo
Mahrez - Jesus - Sterling (sub Sane)

If Gundogan plays then I'm going to have to ask what he has on Pep.
Bravo is a disaster waiting to happen. I can't remember the last time I saw him make a save.
Mendy can't defend. Or attack. Zinchenko is better.

Zinchenko can't defend. Or attack. Mendy is better.
Mahrez is greedy.
Stones is a liabilty. He needs our support so we should bin him off.
Otamendi is a liability. He only plays well next to a leader.
Fernandinho has to play in midfield.
We're away so Jesus has to play. On the left wing.
Play the kids.
Sané played a bit for the u23s the other night so we should give him a full game here.
This is why Sancho left.
Am I the ONLY person who thinks Rodri is trash?
Why did we even buy Cancelo?
We won't win anyway as the FA will pick a ref to screw us over.
Foden will never improve if he doesn't play all 150 minutes.

If we put away just a couple of the 30 plus chances we create every game we should be okay here.

I just had a look on Sheffield Weds forum and apparently they've only sold 11k home tickets for this game, some kinda boycott going on, fans not happy with the board/manager etc.

It's gonna look pretty shit on tv if that's the case, I thought hillsborough would have been rocking with us coming to town.
