Which is corect I said a crust and that can be potato.

Sliced potatoes on a hot pot are not a crust, mash potato on shep/cott/fish pie is.

When well made they are all very tasty though.

indeed it does not, neither should those other two concoctions, a pie worthy of the name has pastry all round and looks something like this
