(I always remember the battle of Barnsley where South Yorkshire finest waded into Blues at the beer counter, a mounted cop was so desperate to join in he was bent double trying to get under the low roof and inside to hit everyone)

To those moaning about cuts in police numbers, how about they move into the modern world.
Why in 2021 do they still have a mounted branch ? Ask any horsey person how much it costs to keep a horse complete with horse boxes, full time groomers, vet fees the lot. There may be only 25 cops riding around on dobbin but the actual costs is hundreds of thousands of pounds. Perhaps they should be spending that money on cops that are on the streets arresting shoplifters

Cleveland Police axed their mounted division to save money to offset govt cuts in funding. They merged with Durham Constabulary around 3 years ago - both now rely on support from Northumbria Police mounted section - at a price I am sure........
