Should jobs like police officer have fitness levels?

Pay is dictated by supply, demand and barriers to entry. Good care workers do a hugely worthwhile job but it’s an occupation that is very easy to enter. Hence low wages.

When they professionalised the Police force and Nursing they made it harder to get into, now if they did the same with care workers you'd find that the pay will rise and so called better educated smarter people would apply.
You're dead right it's a supply and demand thing, imagine having to pay the droves of bottom wiping heroes a decent wage considering we are going to need more of them in the next decade.

It’s a sad dilemma. These are really worthy people who do a much-needed but enenviable job.

Do that and care homes will close by the hundred, presenting an ageing nation with an eye-watering bill and a vacuum in service provision.

Also, any hint of improved conditions would bring the usual well-organised, self-serving sexist cnuts out of the woodwork. Cue much grunting, jostling and farting at the trough.

Why don’t you try reading what I’d posted before rushing in and looking stupid?
You’ve still not answered what you do? It’s not so easy just to change careers if you’ve committed to a pension scheme and reach a certain age, you have to see it out to get the benefit for the shit you’ve dealt with. Many are leaving the fire service to drive trains! Those young enough to be able to get the benefit of starting again. Train drives are on £48k plus, for driving a train, not been spit on, threatened with knives or guns, if I’d been ten years younger I would have gone. Your claiming it’s not a war zone, which means you have no idea, the country is ducked a lot more than even the Daily Mail know, maybe go see for yourself.

This was a good thread to read, pity it's getting derailed. The politician's and their austerity drive have made all public services weaker than they once were unfortunately.
