Should we retire Number 42 when Yaya leaves?

No.

Short termist feel good thing, over long term reasoning and practicality.

Plus it would feel like Americanism/Liverpool/United.

...and that’s never a good thing. (When in uk)

Retiring the shirt of a living player would be a massive break from tradition. There's no reason to retire the number.

Nope, do we take Aguero's number away and Silva's when they go, fuck we wouldn't have any proper numbers left in 10 years time.

no only players that die in service should get that.

Anyway more likely no one will ask for that specific number again anyway

I mentioned in the David Silva thread that while we have not traditionally retired shirt numbers, because teams used the 1-11, in an era of squad numbers, is it time to identify and recognize the real game changers and giants of an era.

As such, Yaya has been instrumental in the growth of Brand City and the new era of success we have enjoyed, and hope to enjoy long into the future.

So, has the Number 42 become “his”? Will it always be synonymous with Yaya?
Not a hope, the only player we've ever retired a shirt number for was Marc Vivien Foe and that should never be devalued.
