Should we try and buy the Stadium from the Council?

I'm quite new to Bluemoon so apologies if this has been covered elsewhere.
I understand we lease the stadium from Manchester City Council. Given the fact they are looking to make 2,000 staff redundant due to funding shortages and the new FFP regulations come into effect in the near future.
Wouldn't it be in both parties best interests for us to buy the stadium and surrounding development land as soon as possible?

No point we have a 200 year lease and have signed a new deal for fixed rent of 3 million a year up from 2 million a year average. We can extend as much as we want now and the rent will never increase above the agreed level. We effectively own it other than naming rights which can be negotiated with the council separately. Extra 1 million a year and we can increase revenue as much as we like and have nothing else to pay that quite a deal why bother buying it ?

The council get something like 50% of the gate receipts over 35,000, so it's a case of figuring out whether it's worth it.

The club's in league with the council to renovate the area, make a nice hotel a some classy restaurants to add to our turnover, so I'm guessing they're letting the council boys call the shots over the stadium to stay in their favour. I'm all for buying our own ground like, but maybe in a few years when we can spend our Champs League TV revenue on moar seats.

It depends how the FFP assessment is calculated, wouldnt it save us the £3-£4 million a year you quote and allow us to sell the naming rights for a huge sum to some middle eastern company?

I'm sure I read earlier this week (on here probably, can't remember) that the club have just renegotiated the terms of the lease with MCC so that we pay a flat fee of £3m p/a rather than a pro-rata payment based on attendances, which has tended to work out at £2m p/a.

As for the MCC redundancies the problem is that budget cuts of £70m need to be found every year, so a one-off cash injection from selling COMS wouldn't solve the long term problem.

I'm one of those affected. Been with the council 20 years and we'll find out terms of the severance offer next week. Worrying times.
