Sick of minutes silence/applause at football matches

I can just about agree with the one they have in the new year for those who have been lost the previous year.
The rest, I am sorry but they are boring , very sad for the loss but never knew them and there are so many others lost, not mentioned I just don’t get it.
 
The Premier league have just announced that in view of last weekends tragedy, there will be, at all Premier league games this next weekend, a 7 minute silence.
Anyone found giggling or smirking will be ejected. Anyone falling on the floor with tears streaming down their face whilst pissing their pants because of uncontrollable laughter will be banned for 3 years.

Go back a decade or so and a minutes silence was rare. As was black armbands. It meant something.

Yesterday Spurs and Fulham had black armbands on. I have no idea who had passed away from one of those clubs.

City on Saturday a minutes silence for a war, than 3 minutes clapping for Francis Lee than taking the knee.
What a fucking joke I went to the Etihad to watch a football game and to pay my respects to one of our own.

Now reading that utd intend to do a minutes silence at their next 2 games for Charlton. Yet City put Francis Lee in the middle of two events that have nothing to do with City or me.

Its getting out of hand.

Football seems to want to get political now, which I dont like.

5 knobheads sing about Chalton and get shit thrown at them ( fair enough ) but nothing is said about liz is in her box by the dippers etc.

I am getting sick to death of this minutes silence for this and that. Can I just watch a football match ? No problem with a minute silence for one of own.

The cynic in me says performative gestures are a cheap alternative to actually talking action on something. I suspect the only thing the PL truly gives a toss about in life is the size of it's next TV rights deal. Everything else is just window dressing.

No, I don't think you are, the national grief-athon is beyond ridiculous now. As you say, pay your respects at Christmas, or make an exception for FHL/Colin Bell who were City legends, but don't ask me to get involved with every other celebrity death or conflict around the world. Bobbins*

I dont mind the clapping 27 etc but I felt abit of a knob when I heard clapping starting up for no reason so assumed it was in memory of someone. Only to realise they were clapping the subs as they started to warm up !
 
I'm surprised arm bands are not on the kits from the start of the season as part of the design.
