In addition to that, there is a rule that force the team to have a certain number of English + home grown players, and this rule will force the manager to stick with some English players.

This rule could be easily dealt with in a couple of years if Guidetti and Razak stay. Both are 20 this year and would count as homegrown once they turn 21 - and Razak looks like he is going to commit to England over Ivory Coast. Weiss also could have been used for a homegrown slot but it looks like we're selling him.

I do think we will always try and have a certain number of English player though as it is a habit of top English sides, so I could see us going for someone like Jack Rodwell if he can stay injury free for a while. I think Barry will start to be pushed more into a rotation/backup role either next season or the one after. Milner will always get games because he can play in a number of different positions.

We do need at least one other talented and expressive midfielder besides Yaya though, Pizarro may be no more than a short-term fix, and Martinez looks to be a real target of our club now that #1 midfield target De Rossi is out of the question.

Besides, not all Englsih players play that "who is more athletic" style of football. Josh McEachran for example doesn't. The squad at Swansea plays totally differently than 90% of the league teams with a majority of English lads. We just have to develop more of our lads around this philosophy, and we'll be fine.

Liked what I saw of him at last years under 21 games, thought he was outstanding and more influence on games than Mata. Having watched him since, he has developed into a top player with a versatile skill base, very good on the ball and can pick out a back to front through ball. Would be my number one signing this summer along with VP. Anything in addition to this pair would have to be about pace and width.

Let's be honest, Bazza and Jamie will not win us the Champions League.

100% agree. Think we should keep hold of Milner though, not CL quality but he's the kind of guy you'd want grafting in the league. Think Barry will go if we bring in a CM, whether its Martinez or not.

Would he come in at the expense of Barry? Or should is he someone we should keep a hold of?

More likely Javi's arrival would lead to Nigel's departure.

-- Sun Mar 25, 2012 12:47 pm --

Martinez and YaYa would together make one of the best centre midfield pair in the world.

Very impressive in the Barca/Bilbao game so far, only 15 minutes gone and he's already made 3 or 4 key tackles as a CB against the intimidating Barca attack. Looks as good as a defender as a midfielder, he really is some talent.
