Sir (why?) Alex Ferguson

To be fair to Fergie, any articles relating to united looking to buy Silva probably had their origins in our very own ono's wind ups. :D :D

tis a fukn joke that red nosed alky got a "sir",and you get a guy like Jock Stein, who was the 1st british manager (and team) to win the European Cup.1 fukn year before that shite.God Bless ye "Sir Jock".FUF.

I'm no monarchist but I was was educated to believe in the Europan 'knightly' tradition as being linked to the idea of the 'gentleman' ....this was a road of sacrifice of the ego the higher good......

... FFS hass the Bacon Faced whinger really shown magnamimity in any football situation since he was Scummanager..... ????????

er... thought not......

Going slightly off topic here but well, as the question's been posed...

Firstly, let me say that I have no truck with any monarchy, anywhere in the world. It's an out-moded concept, in my opinion and has no place in the modern world. Maybe it's because I was born and reared in a republic, that I feel this way but, anyhow, it's how I feel.

That said, I'm fully aware that it's not my place to tell other countries how they should go about their business so what the heck? If the Windsors want to play dress up and you're happy to pay for it, who am I to tell you what to do? (Please don't give me the tourism argument - a zillion people go Blarney Castle every year and it's been unoccupied for a very long time).

I would have thought though (and I'm honestly not being cheeky here (I might have been above), so genuine apologies if I'm offending anyone), that the bestowing of OBE's, Knighthoods etc was always an exercise in 'glory by association'. Sort of, hey that guys a good (ie dangerous) leader of men - make him a knighthood, give him lands and wealth and let everyone know that the king gave it to him. And now, hey Kylie/Fergie/that Scots lady on GMTV is very popular, make them a knight/ dame and the monarchy will gain popularity by association.
Is that not what it's all about - or have I missed a memo?

Just to repeat: absolutely no offence, whatsoever, meant.

All these honours are politically motivated. Alistair Burnley Campbell thought it would be a good idea if the shop steward/Old and New Labour supporter was rewarded by HRH. Think Carlos should get one from the Cons, just to show we've no hard feeling over the Falklands.

In the long run you are right mate...

There was always a 'might is right' cynical side to this honours business ans bacon face is the classic case in point.

Ferguson has no reason to be jealous of us!

He has 90 million to spend. FACT.

All players want to play for Man Yoo because they have 'history'. FACT.

They already have the greatest player in the world in Rooney. FACT.

They don't need Silva, they have Giggs who is better and younger. FACT
