Died aged 80.

Cuban born, grew up in Jamaica , played mostly trombone on many of the great ska classics of the 60's

also some great tracks under his own name

then during the Ska Revival/2Tone era provided the signature horn sounds on so many big hits

In later years often appeared with Jools Holland's Orchestra.

Now the great man has gone, aged 80.
Maybe not a household name but I doubt that too many of us have not been uplifted or ballooned about to his musical contributions often without knowing it.

RIP Rico.

The Specials are on Sky Arts (Channel 121 approx. 7pm) in a 1980 concert tonight,so there should be a chance to see Rico again this evening.
And then The Jam follow on with a concert and then a documentary from the early 80s.
Should be a great evening for Mods/Ska/2 Tone lovers everywhere.

Thanks for that buddy, would of missed them.RIP Rico.

Best lyrics from The Specials have to be from Nite Klub -
"I won't dance in a place like this,
All the girls are slags,
And the beer tastes just like piss".

Sounds like some of the clubs in town I used to frequent in the 70s.
Great lyrics, almost as good as some of the lyrics from The Macc Lads.
