Smacking your kids

Not in the past 10 years or so mate...
You can't deny social media and the Internet has had an impact like no other generation before it..

Kids these days are truly fucked in the head because of it.

Me and you are from a unique time before social media.

It's changed the world and mentality of the young in ways it never did in previous generations.
Like everyone said about videogames? Or TV before that? Or rock music? There's always been something that people blame. And yet the reality, teen pregnancy down, underage drinking down, drug use down. I'd argue the main effect of social media is making people like you think that kids are ten times worse than they were in your day by shoving all of the worst-behaved ones in your face every day. There are a subset of problematic areas where services for young people and young families have been massively cut by the current government, so I'd look to that before social media in explaining any problems. Right wing government love a bogeyman, because it absolves them of any blame for doing fuck all about social problems for their entire time in power. Easier to just blame the TV, or music, or videogames, or now the internet.

There are effects of social media on kids. I'd argue by far the main victims of that are the kids themselves and their teachers, and it mainly affects things like concentration and focus.

I was mainly focusing on things like suicide rates in young people since the advent of social media , which has increased 10 fold in young people.
Cyber bullying increasing..
Kids self harming on the increase.

And don't insult my intelligence mate saying " people like me" believing everything the media shows me.

We’re talking about ‘feral’ kids mate, not mental health problems. Kids who have no respect and presumably engage in anti social behaviour, even criminal behaviour when they get older, not kids who struggle with self esteem or commit suicide. And if one of the criteria is cyber bullying, well no shit. Cyber bullying has increased since the internet was invented. Just like the number of people getting run over increased when the car was invented.

The point is that people have complained about the lack of respect and discipline of children since time immemorial. And in every case, they’re compared unfavourably to some fictional time when all kids were delightful angels who did exactly what they were told, didn’t speak until spoken to, and called everyone sir.

Spoilsport.

I think you are missing the point of this thread.

It isn't about smacking or the reasonable suggestion by paediatricians to beef up legislation to protect children from abusive parents.

It's a vehicle for FOCs to moan at the state of the country and young people whilst ignoring any small part they might have played themselves.

Social media has become the new Fagan and Child catcher all rolled into one. They'll convince your children to transition, and turn them into gangs of pickpockets the like of which have never been seen before.

It was a much simpler and innocent time when you could smack little Johnny about with a rolling pin and then when it didn't work, send him off to a children's home ran and visited by paedophiles.

Can't you just get with the programme.
