Like everyone said about videogames? Or TV before that? Or rock music? There's always been something that people blame. And yet the reality, teen pregnancy down, underage drinking down, drug use down. I'd argue the main effect of social media is making people like you think that kids are ten times worse than they were in your day by shoving all of the worst-behaved ones in your face every day. There are a subset of problematic areas where services for young people and young families have been massively cut by the current government, so I'd look to that before social media in explaining any problems. Right wing government love a bogeyman, because it absolves them of any blame for doing fuck all about social problems for their entire time in power. Easier to just blame the TV, or music, or videogames, or now the internet. Not in the past 10 years or so mate...
You can't deny social media and the Internet has had an impact like no other generation before it..
Kids these days are truly fucked in the head because of it.
Me and you are from a unique time before social media.
It's changed the world and mentality of the young in ways it never did in previous generations.
There are effects of social media on kids. I'd argue by far the main victims of that are the kids themselves and their teachers, and it mainly affects things like concentration and focus.
