Smoking

Genuinely curious on their reasoning behind this? Does smoking somehow hinder the procedure?
You beat me to that question. Is there a genuine reason why the consultant wouldn’t perform the operation or just that they would prefer the patient not to smoke?

A few folks above kindly explained

It hinders wound healing , that is why a lot of surgeons will tell patients to lose weight or their wounds will be really difficult to heal

And smoking prevents bones fusing back together. People can lose limbs because of that.

I listen to what a Professor who saved my life says.

Funny how we’re all different. I’m the exact opposite to that.

Tried all sorts of vapes over the years and never found one that replaced the craving for a proper cig.

Yet, IQOS has done exactly that. Particularly the new TEREA ones. Which are a definite upgrade on the HEETS.

I’ve even got to that annoying ex smoker stage where the smell of a real cig makes the thought of having one quite nauseous.
I've just started with Terea, (2 weeks) I'm finding it very good, didn't get along with vaping but this seems a better substitute.
Iqos are doing a deal at the moment £10 for the device and 4 packs of terea, 2 week trial, if you keep the device they charge you another £9.
Good deal as the Terea are £6 a pack.

Yes, we are all very different. I didn't mind the heated tobacco and it is nearer in taste to real cigarettes but somehow didn't quite do it for me. I didn't really feel satisfied in the same way as I did after a cigarette. No idea why as many of my friends swear by it.

Vaping is quite different though. With smoking and heated tobacco I would go out side for 5 mins and finish my smoke and repeat 20 times a day. With vaping I take 1 drag regularly throughout the day, so it's not as much of an 'event'. More a constant.

I would like to give heated tobacco a try again but as I get on so well with my vape and I suspect it's a bit healthier for my lungs, I probably won't.

They certainly ain’t cheap. That’s the one big disadvantage to vapes.

They do quite regularly send you £15 and £20 off your next purchase vouchers though. So if you use all of them it puts a bit of a dint in it.

Their customer service is excellent aswell. I regularly get a new device when I tell them the old one is playing up and I even got over £300 of free HEETS one time when I was still on them, after putting in a complaint.

I went from 30 a day to maybe 5 a week, after trying everything that didn't work for me I decided that I wouldn't trap myself into giving it all up for ever.

Why? I enjoy having a cig, I have even promised myself that when and if I get the big C I will take it up in earnest again until they bury me.

Gave up 17 years ago fit as a fiddle since stopping I’ve got quite a few health problems now, it may be just coincidence but I feel my body was used to the poison I was inhaling for 20 years and when stopping it was a shock to the system

There’s definitely a big difference between cutting round down and stopping completely.

My father in law has one a day, every day, straight after his tea, after decades of being a heavy smoker. And says he’s never really bothered enough to sneak in another one or two along the way.

The big difference is, no matter how few you smoke, you’ve always got that next one to look forward to.

Whereas accepting you’re never going to have another one ever again is a completely different mindset.
