Smoking

Thank you, @MCFC Wirral says he listened to his Professor but didn’t really explain why. It’s curious as to what they actually said.

I don’t want cancer again so I did as I was told…

If you must know:

-You’re not a smoker, are you?
-No.
-Good. You’d have had to give up otherwise we couldn’t carry out the operation.
-OK.

Happy?

I was curious, nothing more. As I’ve replied to you before on another thread, I wish you nothing more than a speedy recovery from your recent op and good health for the future:)

Reminds me of when I had open heart surgery, one of the things they do is deflate the lungs for space to work in. Then post op the physio came to see me and said "please tell me you don't smoke" I said no I don't, gave up 25 years ago (when I was 40).

It's a bit torturous getting your lungs properly inflated again, blowing and sucking on these little tubes with balls in them twice a day. Takes a week to get them back where they were. I got to hate the sight of her :)

She said If I'd been a smoker the job would've taken much longer and been a lot more painful.

When you have a biopsy on your lungs, the lung gets deflated then. The doctors say it similar to an inner tube being punctured.

Don’t smoke! If you do smoke, stop!

Smoking killed my Mum. She died from COPD. I looked after my Mum for months at home. She was on oxygen and bed ridden towards the end of her life before she passed away in St Anne’s Hospice with me by her side holding her hand. My Mother passed away on the 31st of July 2015. She was 81 years old. I have no doubt she would have lived longer if she hadn’t smoked. When I was young she caught me smoking. She made me smoke the cigarette and offered me more cigarettes. From that day on I haven’t touched a cigarette.

I had one of those when I had the op originally and when I had reversal.

I’m completely fatigued now. Just constantly tired.

I didn't know that.

God I dreaded that woman coming in twice a day. So glad I stopped smoking, probably the best thing I ever did. Saved a fortune on them as well.

Only if you’re a bit unlucky, that is a side effect that can occur. Doesn’t typically happen though.

More likely to happen if you’re a smoker though unsurprisingly.

I had a biopsy last year and the procedure was explained beforehand to me that the lung would deflate, although I couldn’t say by how much. What I can say is unfortunately I did have an air lock afterwards and that was painful, something that that doctor explained might happen beforehand.
