So Proud

Just had a call from my bro in law. My little nephew (only 6) plays football for his local club (based in morecambe) a couple of time a week and they were in a touranment in Blackpool today. My nephew played in 3 games and scored 12 goals and my brother in law was approached by a scout from Blackburn and wants him to go down and train with the Blackburn kids for the next couple of Thursdays with a view to joining their academy.

Made up for him.

This is great buit it pisses me off when, if he does get signed up, they wont let him play at school or in the street with his mates.
Dunno what Blackburns policy is but lots of clubs insist on this.

You can play for school mate,
but not any junior football as in Reddish Rovers U9s, which is crap as well

competitive games for the very young bring out the very worst in parents, to the point that games are abandoned.
This post is cause for optimism, that things really are changing for the better, skill and fun instead of bigger/harder/faster that has done so much to drag down english football
Good on yer SWP 'feet on the ground and all that,' but just that tiny thought 'what if' must be hard to ignore

I made him sign a contract giving me 50% of his earnings and groupies obviously just in case.

Made up for uncle SWP & Nephew, but I have two friends whose sons have gone through the youth set up (at shitter clubs than B'burn TBH) and both were cut dead at around the 17 yr point. It seems the line between making the grade and getting ditched is pretty fine - felt for them both but hope your little man does well.

He's too young now to Understand but I will be ensuring he is aware of the pitfalls mate in due course.
