Paul Scholes: Yaya Toure just doesn't look interested for Man City and that's a big problem

The amount of time I saw opponents get in behind him in the game in Munich was quite remarkable. He just did not look interested. Alongside him, Fernandinho is having to do the work of two players defensively and against Bayern that was always going to cause City problems.

If they have any chance of breaking through the last 16 in the Champions League this season then City need to play two holding midfielders who are prepared to work back, rather than just one. In that case, Pellegrini would be looking at either leaving out Touré or moving him further forward. He would have to play Fernando or James Milner alongside Fernandinho.

When United won the Champions League in 1999 we played 4-4-2 and often I would find myself left out in favour of two in centre midfield from Roy Keane, Nicky Butt or Ronny Johnsen. Playing away in Europe, the manager knew he needed those two defensively minded players. The priority was the result. Playing attractive, attacking football was best done at home.

City could have been three or four goals down within the first half an hour had it not been for their keeper Joe Hart. They cannot afford any passengers in Europe.

Touré just seems to amble about. He might get away with that in the Premier League but there is no hiding place against the best teams in Europe.

Ratboy back for another nibble this morning
Man United legend claims City are "running out of time" to win the Champions League
according to Gary Neville.

The former Manchester United full-back reckons the age of the City squad and the impact of Financial Fair Play mean the chances of success in Europe for Manuel Pellegrini's men are decreasing every season.

City lost their opening game of this season's Champions League 1-0 in Bayern Munich on Wednesday.

Writing in the Daily Telegraph, Neville said: "Two championships in three years marks them out as a great English side who sit alongside the title-winning teams of Arsene Wenger, (Jose) Mourinho and Sir Alex Ferguson. But just looking at them now, and where they are in their development, I feel this team is in a dangerous position.

"Before Wednesday's game I said: 'For this team the time is now.' I looked at the line-up and felt they were growing old together. Football allows that less and less. The fruit is ripe - but you had better eat it quickly, because it's going to go off.

"The value of those players will drop quite sharply in the next 18 months because everyone will know they are going over the edge. People used to say of Ferguson: 'Why has he sold this or that player when he's still performing really well?' Answer: because he knew what was coming.

"There is a trace of that now with City. Their problem, though, is that Financial Fair Play is chasing them down the road. So their option is to sell big now and buy young replacements in the next 12 months.

"If they wait any longer they will be in trouble on the saleable value of the current players. Another route would be to bring through academy graduates."

Its been CL week and they are hurting by not being part of it, once a rag always a rag.

I am told that on Eastenders last night the landlord of the Queen Vic was comparing something and said they were like Man City and the other lot like Liverpool. When a woman asked what he meant he said Liverpool were all talk where as Man City are the champions. The agenda has ended or at least Eastended.
