...is the fact that our smallest win is 3-0.

Okay, doesn't seem a problem on the face of it, but I would like to see us actually grind out a win this year. A nervous 1-0, or a come-from-behind 2-1. We proven that when the opposition is below par, we can really go to town and score a shitload of goals. But when the going's tough, we haven't kicked on and got the three points.

Wheelsy, you'll get slated by some idiots for saying that, but its actually a good point.

Our inability to "grind" out results is there to see.
When we are on fire we can score shit loads.
Its the away games and tougher teams at home that show how far we've come (if at all).
Hull look like they are in freefall, the arse were in turmoil when they came to us, so we've never come good on a 1-1 situation or hang on for 10 minutes situation either.

We need some more steel (Senna, Toure, Chiellini) etc.. to do what you are saying.

plus a "true" captain who can lead the side, keep our heads up, etc.. etc..

Not Dunne

I'd prefer to win 5-1 than 1-0 any day of the week (and twice on Sundays).
For sure.

But we need to start to win games from losing, or difficult positions. Like Newcastle was in the bag at 1-0 against 10 men, you'd think. Or drawing against Wigan, Everton, and West Brom to get done in the last minutes.

I'd love to see us fight out a last minute winner at Blackburn.
2-1, Dunne header in the 89th minute (that would be a goal for us in the right net Richard).

i do agree, though it was quite comforting once hull scored to see us go up the other end and stick in another for good measure.

i mean, i know we knew we'd had them beat, but hopefully that kinda trend can continue

I think the reality is we play better against teams that come to play- we can't cope with the 11 men behind the ball mentality. It takes a different kind of creativity to break down a packed penalty area. Instead our style of play involves free-flowing moves scything through from midfield. That is why we either lose or "win big".

there is no pleasing some people win 5-1 and we still find fault, we do need to grind out some results but do not knock them for winning and winning well , today was the first time for ages the manager played players where they are supposed to play in the right posistions and he also left that idiot vassell on the bench. i do not now why he took caciedo of at half time surley injured i hope and not to rest him he has only played a couple of times.

Agree 100%

I also agree. When we are in our groove we look awesome going forward.

I think to break down a packed area you need a top striker who you know when he gets a sniff aint going to let u down, which is what we haven't got at the minute(big Phil has 4 in 3 but lets not get too carried away just yet).

It's because we cant get the ball back when other teams are controlling the game. Thats why we need another player in the centre, with Kompany/Ireland(or Elano, if needed) , who can tackle.

totally agree. also need a centre forward who can hold the ball up.

We're a bit like that girl with the curl in the middle of her forehead. When we're good, we're very very good. When we're bad we're horrid.

This is just becauswe the team is going through a transitional period IMO. A few more signings of the right players in the right positions and I'd expect us to sort this.

a very good point in the original post imo. I say forget kaka, villa, pele, maradonna and jimmy fucin Grimble........
We need to purchase a couple of QUALITY midfielders who can fight, pass, defend, and pop the occasional one in, fernadez isnt the answer YET.... but a midfield player in the Patrick Viera mold would turn some away 1-1 draws into 2-1 victories and 1-0 defeats into 1-1 draws that would get us into Europe.

And would anyone have thought that Zabba would be the gritty midfielder to see us through a difficult period, and grab the winning goal??

Top performance from him
