So, with no RSC, is it going to be Sturridge or Caiceido?

Hughes has made it patently clear that he wants a target man who can put his weight about, hold the ball up, challenge for balls in the air and score his share of goals. He THINKS RSC is that guy, but he will not be here until summer.

So, in the absence of RSC, and recognizing that Jo (natural choice?) has gone to the Toffees, who will be the lone striker in the proverbial 4-5-1 that we will play for most (all?!) of the second half of the season?

Personally, I would like to see Sturridge be given a run of games to see if he REALLY has the ability he threatens to have. If he does a decent job, give him whatever he needs and forget about RSC. In addition, I would like to see Caiceido come on for the last 20-30 mins of games where Sturridge is not having much effect, so we can see exactly what we have there, too. Either way, by the end of the season, we need to have a decision whether they can both do the business or not in the "balance" Hughes is looking for.

Oh, and for the record, I think Robinho probably does NOT fit into Hughes' long term plans for his team and will be on his way at the end of the season.

Second half of season First XI:

................................Given

Richards...........Dunne.......Kompany............Bridge
................Zabaletta...............De Jong

....SWP....................Ireland..................Robinho(Bellamy next season)

..........................Bellamy/Sturridge

Thoughts?

I tell you right now that the first time Hughes suggests (yes just suggests) Robbie to leave - the owners will not even ask him what he means he will be gone. I an still in the Hughes camp but if he cannot manage big players then he will be gone.

sturridge is NOT going to play lone striker, he is totally unsuited to it. He'll fill in on either flank, or play as a second striker when we are chasing goals.

it'll be either bigus phillus or bellamy upfront.

BOJINOV! Ready for 1st team in around 4 weeks. Heard he will be playing for res's in a couple of weeks.

boj i thought played the second striker role (please correct me if i am wrong)

sturridge as someone else said cannt play the lone role but is definately more talented than caceido.......

with the pace we have in our side as long as we arent just lumping it up to the centre forward then sturridge should never be isolated (unless you are playing utd, chelski etc away then it might happen) as he will get support from swp bellend and robbie and irealnd as well (anyone else notice than ireland seems to have got a lot quicker this season)

caceido isnt up to the task of leading the line for a team aspiring to be in the top half of the prem (at the moment)....he is nieve at best.......he is slow to read sitautions and while he has the physical presence that is about it....and for a big guy i dont ever seem to remember him winning a lot in the air

so for me it has to be sturridge until boj is fit

This. He was back in full training today, I would not be too surprised if he makes an appearance against Boro in the last 10 minutes.... and scores a hattrick... get in son!
