You could get 5 random people off the street and it'd be the same show. The whole point of celebrity shows is that you get people doing something that isn't their talent and get to see how they react, and because they're the sort of people who are comfortable in front of a camera, in theory it should be better. When they only appear on camera from the back of a stadium, it's hard for anyone's personality to come across, so you just end up with a bunch of people who kinda fancied themselves as a footballer growing up genuinely trying their best. Basically you've hired a comedian for your event and they've not told a joke. What's the point of that?
I suppose anything that can sell out 70,000 tickets each year and attract enough TV viewers to raise nearly £15 million between them, has a point to it.
It’s clearly not an event geared towards hardcore football supporters but there’s a sizeable amount of people who obviously enjoy it so I’m sure it will carry on each year for now.
