With the news Owen Farrell is taking a break from the International game to focus on his and his families mental health, it’s got me thinking about the mental aspect of being in professional sport and the backlash you get.

Reading some of the things people have said online to Owen is crazy, behind a screen people feel it’s acceptable to be truly sick and say stuff they weren’t dream to say to someone’s face.

Even in football, Jack Grealish said he stopped reading his socials due to how venomous people can be.

Maybe it’s a generational thing but people seem to be getting more and more outlandish with that they say online to garner attention.

If you don't like social media then get off it, it can't wont be policed and I wouldn't expect it to.

Sounds a bit odd that people just want people who either agree with them or are nice to them even though they don't know them or ever will know them.

Well said.
The abuse levels sports people get is truly a stain on humanity.

Social media is a fucking horrible cesspit of utter shithouse wankers who wouldn't say boo to a goose on the street, yet become prime Marvin Hagler when they get behind a keyboard. I've even seen it on here in the past once or twice. My advice to any young person is stay the fuck away from it, your life will be so much better.

Social media has a lot to answer for. The anonymity that it affords people means that cowards can say stuff to others that they wouldn't have the guts to say to them face to face.

C'mon there are people with social media accounts having anonymous people posting for them, and when that anonymous person talks shit they claim they are not responsible or have been hacked.

If people say bad enough things they can be found, being upset isn't and shouldn't be actionable.
