Something’s changed

My son is 11 and I’ve always developed an interest in City with him and he’s absolutely a City fan. He’s been to quite a few games, even walked out as mascot with Fernandinho a few years ago after I won a comp. All that being said, he has never really pushed to watch games on tv and would rather do other stuff really. I’d sit down to watch a game with him and after 10 minutes he’d lose interest and head off to do other stuff.

That was until this season. Last night he was sat with me glued to the TV and didn’t stop talking about Haaland till I sent him to bed. He’s desperate for me to take him on a game and pretty much is fully bought into every game now. He sat through the derby on Sunday on his own and watched the whole thing going crazy. What’s changed, 100% Haaland. The guy is capturing the imagination of the football world and it’s going to bring droves of new fans with it.

Well, stating the obvious here Ronaldo is the best goal scorer i’ve ever seen (nowhere near Messi as a player for me)and i thought the silly numbers those 2 got would never be beaten, not in my lifetime to quote the pisscan! It’s mental that whilst those 2 are still playing someone has come along who’s a serious threat to a lot of their records. Even more amazing he’s playing for us at 22.

My love for City could never dwindle but he’s certainly bringing the excitement back of watching us become a great team the first time around where it was all new and different with Aguero, Vinnie, Toure and David!
For some of us the first time round was Bell, Lee and Summerbee

Tonight waiting for the game to start in the top of SS L3, the buzz from the people coming in especially the younger ones was all for Haaland, the only time I’ve seen fans like this was when Messi came into town for the few games he played against us. That change is Haaland, he is a World Superstar already, I also got the impression the typical City is disappearing, certainly from me, this lad has the capability to take us to the next level and beyond. Don’t get me wrong the last 10 years have been brilliant, but this lad, he’s brought something with him, I don’t want to get big headed as a City fan but there’s an air of invincibility about this team with him in it. I never thought anyone could be better than Aguero but by God this lad if he stays 5 years could out smash a lot of his records.
They might have been buzzing at the start but it didn't stop them going home 15 minutes before the final whistle....

As I’ve mentioned elsewhere, was in Turkey shortly after his signing, thought I’d treat myself to a snide City shirt, I was expecting quite a few ‘Gündoğan‘s’ there and being worn by locals, but no, it was all Haaland.
It was obvious he was popular before that, but never realised just how much worldwide, as someone mentioned earlier, he’s the next ‘Messi’ and ‘Ronaldo’ along with Mbappe, the next global superstars.

Tbh, all things considered, I’m quite expectant he will move on in 3-5 years, (but hopefully he realises things are never going to be better than here) I’m relatively happy with that, 3-5 years of this utter sensation is amazing just in itself.

You know the likes of Messi, Ronaldo, Mbappe, Neymar, etc? That mythical creature at another club. That player every kid wants in their FIFA team. The superstars of world football. We have it, and his name is Erling Braut Haaland.

The acquisition of Haaland from Pep and co. I'm certain, is purely for footballing reasons, but the global reach and marketing Haaland has extended for the club, especially to the younger crowd, can't be denied. Maybe this was the effect the Shiekh had expected when he signed Robinho. Right now this Norwegian lad is a force on the pitch and off the pitch.

The smile on Pep's face is telling. Brimming from ear to ear. He has got his 'Messi'. The man who completes the puzzle. The beautiful star on top of an already exquisite Christmas tree.

If Pep doesn’t extend with this lad leading the line he’s a fool, he could win us everything multiple times. I don’t fear anyone now, if he doesn’t score he’s got so many players on him then one of the others will, they haven’t a clue what to do. Grealish comments last night about the Copenhagen keeper remarks shows everyone fears him.

He's definitely somebody who is already starting to transcend football. There's people at work who know I'm a City fan but haven't ever really engaged me in any football related conversation previously that are talking to me about him. And it is just him. Its not "I see City won last night", it's "I see he scored again last night"!

Without a doubt this lad is taking City to the next level. He’s becoming the biggest name in the football world before our very eyes.

Unstoppable in the air, hammer of a left foot, strong right foot, quick as lightning, strong as an ox, intelligent, unselfish, team player, perfect professional.

And he supported City as a boy and his dad played for City. I still can’t fucking believe what is happening before our very eyes. This is the stuff of fantasies.
You forgot how likeable he is :-)
Plays with an assassins smile. Jokes with the opposition. Everyone’s best mate.
And a hat trick almost every game.
I honestly have never seen his like.

And he plays for ickle City.

It was always coming that non league games where most tickets are unavailable would bring in those here for the success and high probability of us winning, haaland has just upped that level because of his global star status.

The measure is if we sell out a league cup game against the likes of reading because of him.

Part of me though is uneasy If people only buy tickets to see haaland and not city and have no interest in us otherwise, then do we really want that.
I reckon once they are captured at the Eithad they'll get hooked.

4-5 years of Haaland should be enough to brainwash them, and their kids, to all things City.

We were a remarkable team before Haaland and will be long after he goes...

I wonder if we'd have signed Mbappe before PSG (as we tried to) if he'd have had as much of an impact. I doubt it.

Haaland v Mbappe debates will be global subjects of discussion for the foreseeable future.
