If you need an uplifting story follow this one on Twitter - Rory Cellan-Jones a former BBC technology reporter who I think left them after being diagnosed with MND or something similar. His last dog Cabbage died last year and he wanted a replacement dog. They were finding it very hard to re-home a rescue dog from the UK but it was proving increasingly hard so they adopted Sophie from Romania.

I dread to think what the poor thing has been through - she is so traumatised and scared - she has stayed behind the sofa since arriving only coming out for a bit of food. There was some progress last night when she came out for a stroke and a pat but you could see her head was down and tail between her legs just waiting for a good kicking or something.

However progress is being made and as a cat lover I think she is beautiful and I wish Rory, his family and of course Sophie all the very best.

Why was it difficult to home a dog from the UK? That being said anyone who homes an animal and cares for it has my full support and admiration whatever the circumstances, good luck to Sophie and her lovely new family.

Don’t think dogs really have a nationality tbh.
Its nothing to do with nationality. There are thousands of dogs in Greece, France and everywhere else that need a good home. Why is this even a story.
If you want a dog, go to a UK dogs home.

The OP literally said that they were having difficulty re-housing a dog from the UK, for whatever reason. “UK dogs for UK homes” is impressive dedication to nationalism though! Can’t you just be happy that a dog, any dog, has been given a better life?!
