This part by Castles (I think) may be the most telling of all. I'm not sure if it's excessive but I trust these guys and it bothers me how many players we always seem to have yet how few Mancini trusts to play in the first team (which is why it was very refreshing to see Rekik yesterday).

Ferran Soriano and Txiki Begiristain, City's recently appointed chief executive and director of football, want to cut the number of players on the books. City have over 50 professionals and the former Barcelona executives calculate that more than half of those need to be moved. Many of the players City have under contract are judged not to be capable of playing for the first team.

Lescott, Kolarov, Milner :(, Barry :(, Dzeko, Kolo, and Mario all listed as possibly on the way out/replaceable in the article.

I'd be sad to see Milner and Lescott go :(

I would like to see Barry and Milner stay, We could offer them a new restructured contract like what the other lads are getting now.

As for the others it would be sad to see them leave after there contributions last year but in financial terms and other factors if we get offers they have to be considered.

I'd take isco and swap benat for Garcia not Barry as Barry is class. Never seen zouma or Franco so can't say.

whos franco mate?

I like the idea. I trust that they will set up the right scouting networks for it to be successful.

Pedro Franco, a Colombian defender called the "new Thiago Silva" and the latest name linked with us... along with Zouma. It could be one of those two who replaces Kolo. City apparently scouting both of them extensively.

Also if all those players will leave it'd mean around 120M (transfer fees+wages). New players shouldn't earn more than 4/5 so we'd have around 80M to spend from these deals.

I imagine we'll want to keep a certain number of English players though for the homegrown quota and also image. I don't think Milner will leave but might be offered reduced terms for his next contract - he has no agent does he?

I dont think we can get rid of barry, milner and lescott. Where would that leave us on the homegrown rule?
Plus, all 3 give squad depth.

All 3 earn around 270k and two of them are in early 30s.

Yep, Barry and Milner will be going nowhere.

My understanding is for every homegrown player we lack we just can't name anyone else in the squad. So if we lack 2 homegrown players to meet the quota we can only name 23 players in our squad (correct me if I'm wrong). Considering we haven't submitted a full 25-man squad yet I'm not sure how much of an issue it is but obviously we won't want to be limited to a 20-man squad or something so will have to keep the HG count up. So we need to name 8 homegrown qualified players and you'd think these are the eligible ones who are nailed on to stay next year: Hart, Wright (or some other English keeper), Micah, Clichy, Rodwell

That's 5 of 8. You can add Guidetti who becomes eligible next season to make it 6 of 8, leaving only two spots that need filling. I didn't list Barry, Milner, Sinclair, or Lescott because they they could be in danger but keeping even two of them would be enough for a full homegrown quota - Milner and Barry the most likely. With Barry if he does leave I can't see it being this summer because he is on big wages that no one is likely to match due to his age so he'd be let go at the end of his contract (summer 2014).

But it's fair to say our biggest problems are in midfield so some of those players must leave. If Kolo+Lescott will leave Micah+Rodwell could play in their positions. Dzeko+Balo should make space for another striker and Isco, hopefully. And Barry+Milner+Sinclair could be replaced by a top winger and somebody like Benat, I hope. I really think 7, 8 first team players will leave in next 8 months.

I think he'll try to secure a 3-year deal somewhere. Injuries can happen but he's english, experienced. If we're ready to accept 4, 5M or so... I'm sure Sunderland, West Ham or similar clubs would try. Similar with Lescott.
