I like Souness...an honest pro, well respected and talks sense, plus I think he has a soft spot for City.
Don't think the Keeper would have been sent off if the penalty had been given. Genuine attempt to play the ball.
That was pristine compared to the Baseball Ground.View attachment 12246View attachment 12246
Maine Road wasn’t always pristine - this would be late 60’s or early 70s
Sod all to do with technology. That was human stupidity at work. It's unrealistic to expect VAR to get everything right but every other game has a talking point. It's failed no question and we don't need any more time to finesse it.
I am sure in years to come we will have technology that works but at the moment VAR is not working. A shame that a wonderful performance by Riyadh has been overshadowed by VAR again.
Again, it’s hypothetical anyway as it didn’t happen but the law clearly states that it would not be a red card. Here is the law:
“Where a player commits an offence against an opponent within their own penalty area which denies an opponent an obvious goal-scoring opportunity and the referee awards a penalty kick, the offending player is cautioned if the offence was an attempt to play the ball; in all other circumstances (e.g. holding, pulling, pushing, no possibility to play the ball etc.) the offending player must be sent off.”
Spot on!
As stated many times, VAR is not the issue, never has beenIf City are crowned Champions, then at the end of the season we should lobby football and use what influence we have to suspend VAR. Surely Manchester City and Pep Guardiola carry some weight in football?
I believe FIFA are trialing alternative offside algorithms so it seems to me that changes are afoot and naturally we know technology will have a growing influence in the game. VAR has failed, and next season, if fans are back, VAR is going to get more important. It's one thing experiencing a VAR delay on TV another when you are at the game.
I remember vaguely that the Premier Leaue clubs met towards the end of last season and there was reported to be a lot of unhappiness with VAR but they agreed to give it an extra 12 months to bed in. Surely now we have seen enough?
I can only think of one club who may like VAR and that is Man Utd. Why would any other football club be in favour of VAR?
We would have missed the pen anyway;) Foden not going down has put a spotlight on the corruption we otherwise would not have seen. It's a team sport Kaz. If we don't win the game that could have been a costly error by Phil. He wouldn't have been diving if he'd stayed down and would probably have got the penalty. Sad state of affairs but thats just the way it is.
