I saw the map at the Rylands Library last week. The amount of detail it contains is quite bizarre. I wonder how many cities were given that treatment?

probably all major cities, i bet theres maps of russian cities just like this on the other side of things. They had such a big intelligence service back in the cold war they could spend time on making invasion plans "just-in-case".

What's bizarre is that they'd have never got near Manchester. Never mind crossing the Mersey NATO policy was to have gone nuclear the second the soviets crossed the Rhine.

i was i the BAOR in the late 80`s.I fixed tanks and worked with 3 RTR.We were told that the soviet threat was so volatile that if they decided to kick off we`d be fucked.They`d be in Paris within 3 days.It would take that long for the americans to mobilize there forces and the 3rd world war would basically take place over france and England.My unit was supposed to fuck off upto Northern germany sharpish and then attack the Russians from behind.They told us the Russians new all about what would happen but would just steam roller ahead anyway.They had like 7 tanks to our 1 at the time.But we were the fucking british army and we would kick ass!!ha ha My old CO had some balls!!
