Spinning dots on windows 10

Hi folks I turned on my laptop today and it appeared to be updating but now it's stuck with spinning little dots like this for the last couple of hours. I'm absolutely tech savvy terrible so any idiot proof fix would be great. Thanks in advance folks

It's thinking. Pull the battery out and start again.

I agree with that advice,windows 10 can update for hours,don't let it do updates without asking you first,go into settings and change it from auto

Assume you have tried to switch it off? press every thing on your keyboard including the enter,something might work

You should be able to press and hold the power button to shut it off. Though I did that once on a laptop running Windows 7 in the middle of an update and it messed up and wouldn't boot (fresh install time).

Make sure you turn off automatic updates so you can choose when to install them. They can take hours.
