Yeah it might be a lucky stab in the dark, but it's a massive coincidence..

It's not a lucky stab in the dark nor is it a massive coincidence. It's a highly edited video where we have no knowledge of the conversations before or after, nor how setup it was. She could be a plant. She could have given her name and title beforehand to allow the woman to do some research. She could have used cold reading techniques to go deeper and deeper into detail then cut out the wrong hits. She doesn't even say anything approaching specific either, everything is incredibly vague and people take out of it what they want.

All mediumship relies on the fact that you only remember the "hits" and not the "misses" when recalling the event. For Gods sake you people who are into this, take a tape recorder and play it back to yourself later. If they don't allow tape recorders then ask yourself why that it is.

I do think there is more to this world we don't know about, and you hear of bad spirits, ghosts, hauntings from reliable witnesses for it not to be true.. so if there is really spirits, why not mediums?

People hallucinate. That doesn't mean it's real. And "well if this is outlandish but I believe it then why shouldn't I believe this other outllandish thing?" is an extremely poor basis for which to judge reality.

Because Police and FBI are often desperate people who want to give support to families and will try absolutely everything from actual detective work to ridiculous bullshit like mediums and lie detectors to achieve a result.

And if they won't admit it how do you know they use them?

The whole thing is a scam. You can go now and buy a book on Amazon that will teach you cold reading, then go and become a medium yourself. Nobody is talking to dead people. They use a very well documented technique used by magicians and others for hundreds of years. Shit, hackers have been using cold reading techniques in their social engineering for years too. It's not real.

So many ignorant people spouting the same crap. One of my best friends is a medium in manchester - is uncannily accurate. She works near picadilly and undoubtably has an incredible gift.

Yes, us ones suggesting that talking to dead people are the ignorant ones spouting crap.

I love spiritualist types and have been to more than a few. Unfortunately for them I studied Cold Reading quite extensively as there was a woman who I felt was exploiting my sister's grief for her friend, and every single one of them is both full of shit and can be caught out in a good ten minutes if you know what you're doing.

Your friend is a liar and a fraud and they are exploiting people's deeply held grief for money. You should rethink your friendship with someone so horrible.

Think it's a bit harsh to says she's a horrible person who is exploiting people - she may really believe she has some sort of skill and can bring comfort to people. Vicars, priests nuns do the same thing but we don't think they are horrible people for their belief and of course they exploit us all look at the absolute luxury the Pope enjoys

Vicars, priests and nuns use the teachings of their faith to attempt to help other people.

Spiritualists charge money and tell you that your dead relatives are still around and can communicate with you only through them. They are literally financially exploiting people's grief, and I use that word literally in its proper meaning.

I have grief and I've lost people; people that are close to me, people that I wish I could still see, hear, and touch. When you feel an overwhelming grief there is no single act in the human experience that makes you more vulnerable and more desperate. In fact the Kübler-Ross'/5 stages of grief model specifically mentions the bargaining stage where you are willing to do anything to again feel connected to the individual.

This is where these vultures swoop in. They take people often in the bargaining phase and tell them that if they give them some cash then they will be able to experience that person again through them. As those people who do almost anything, they hand it over readily and in spades. Even worse than this, there is a financial incentive for the reader to prolong that and need "multiple visits" which one presumes means they cling even harder to the deceased.

Grief is a psychological healing process to attempt to deal with an emotional trauma. The Church, and don't get me started on the ills of religion, tells them that the dead are gone and now live in paradise. They tell people that Jesus or whomever can support them through their grief if they allow him to through prayer and the like of. There is a finality to it, a focus on the fact that the dead are gone and in a better place. A comforting fable some might say.

Mediums recognise a psychological healing process that makes us vulnerable then pumps people for cash. To me it's FC United/Scientology levels of immoral and if I could wipe the whole practice out tomorrow I would do, and I'd do it with a big smile on my face too.

As I said, it's a trick. Anybody with a book and a bit of practice can work at it to become successful. You can sit and learn how to exploit the depression and weakness of your fellow man so you can buy a nice watch or a better pair of shoes. Saying "I'm a spiritualist medium" is right next to saying "I train suicide bombers" or "I'm a rapist" in how annoyed it makes me - people leeching off of others in the most despicable way for their own personal gain
