With many clubs in the Premier League sticking together in plans to stop the likes of City and Newcastle dominating, what is there to stop the two clubs owners collaborating and sponsoring each other to beat the system ?

The cartel are drawing up plans to stop any such collusion…erm for the good of the game;)

I don't think they can 'stop' City doing anything as Etihad is legally not a related party to the football club, as proved by 10+ years of audited accounts.

I would go as far to say that if Newcastle choose to take the legal route on this, the PL/Clubs would be forced to back down on grounds of restriction of trade.

It’s an interesting thought and perhaps one of our resident financial boffins could tell us if there is such a thing as collusion to fix a market i.e. some sort of cartel, which could be aimed at two clubs cooperating in such a way, as opposed to 8 clubs colluding to….errr…..fix a market i.e. some sort of cartel which would be……errrm… completely different.

they are means and ways around everything

am surprised manchester city have not built a bigger stadium like a 100.000 and charge maximum £10 a ticket and free for kids and promote a major sponsor to get involved by investing there name to the tickets

match day revenue is a small fish in a very big ocean and clubs in the premier league really could open up for free

The collusion concept would very likely fall foul of UK price fixing legislation which is pretty wide ranging and covers all sorts of scenarios that might suggest a cartel is trying to prevent fair competition.

I would like to know what our gate receipt income over a season is in comparison to our sponsor money and other add ons . Pretty sure it’s not high and isn’t a major income for the club. Like you say expand the stadium cut ticket prices and free for kids.

There should a safe standing area for 16-25 year olds with tickets priced at £10 per match or £150 for a season card. Season card must be used at least 15 times per season excluding all domestic and European games and if it is the supporter gets a £50 voucher to spend in club shop.

Throw in a burger and a lottery ticket and there would be no empty seats

Matchday Income is in the £50millions. In last pre-covid year it was £55mil out of total revenue £535mil so just over 10%.

Correct. Pisses me off when they stick season tickets up by £20. Literally a speck in the ocean. But if city can screw a score out of us …

if you build a bigger stadium with safe standing and reduce the price of a ticket you really could offer free tickets or £20 maximum and make the same amount if not more. somebody said that match going fans in Germany pay around £17.50 for a match ticket and look at the atmosphere and full stadiums. the Etihad should be all safe standing in the lower level and go from there

Not whilst they can fit nonsense like the tunnel club in

I agree, safe standing is the way forward, make all the lower tiers safe standing. It will improve the atmosphere and encourage a lot of older fans to come back. Put away fans in the top tier like they do to us at Newcastle. Reduce drink prices and get fans in early like they did first game this season.
