Sportswashing is a made up word, so what's your definition?

Does it mean that finance companies, noodle, clothing and car manufacturers, etc. are also sportswashing their brands - either to distract from dodgy things they may have been associsted with too, to gain access to millions of attracted eyes and minds, and/or to make themselves look better by being associated with success?

Like the dipper's shirt sponsor for example? A prime case.

Nerdy pricks that suddenly have a chance to talk football and actually have people listen when in real life nobody would give them the time of day. In years gone by their industry used to just report on games and you only saw a little picture of the writers face next to their story, that is until Sky and their ilk decided the commentators, pundits and writers should be more important than the actual game.In their heads they think people care when in fact people are just reacting to their bullshit. These glory hunting fanboys should actually try discussing their views with real city fans face to face and see how far they get with their sport washing argument.

There a lot of non City fans on Twitter questioning that sportwashing is a thing and pointing out rightly that buying a premier league club has a reverse affect.
Maybe they have to find another word soon .

Sportswashing is buying a sports franchise in the US, bribing and cheating and blackmailing influential figures within the game and selling information to raise your own betting stake. Football $pells Guarantee$, or FSG for short, you even get free laundry too.

A lot of non City fans meaning United and Liverpool fans. It only ever comes from them, I wonder why that is? Half of these cranks have no clue about UAE and have a perception of the country being some sort of medieval battleground with Mansour going around chopping peoples heads off. A lot of them refer to the ongoing trouble in Yemen, ask them to elaborate on the conflict and they shit themselves and result in posting articles they’ve found from Google. I’m not downplaying human rights issues in Middle Eastern countries, but why should westerners that have a completely different culture dictate what Arabs do who have been living their own culture for 1000’s of years? UAE attracts millions of tourists every year and I guarantee a vast majority would want to go back. What does that tell you?

As I pointed out in the Media thread yesterday, some Western liberals are little different from Colonials of yesteryear. Trying to impose Western culture and values on societies that simply do not want them.

I meant they are saying that sportwashing is not working.
Not many but maybe slowly somebody will see what this really is .
It has nothing to do with human rights .

Sportswashing to me means turning money gained from dodgy practices into 'clean' money via the medium of sport.
One of our biggest accusers seem to be trying to deflect attention from their own 'sportswashing' activities....
