How desperate are Spurs to have to stoop so low as a Judicial review of the 2012 stadium decision?

It seems they are stuck without a new stadium for perhaps a decade (or ever?) of they lose this one.

Remarkable really.

-- Wed Mar 30, 2011 1:28 pm --

Tottenham Hotspur are taking Olympic chiefs to court over the decision to hand the 2012 stadium to West Ham after the Games, the BBC has learned.

The Olympic Park Legacy Company (OPLC), which chose West Ham ahead of Spurs last month, confirmed Tottenham are pressing ahead with a judicial review.

Tottenham informed the OPLC of its decision this week, as construction on the Olympic Stadium was completed.

A judge will now review the lawfulness of the decision.

An OPLC spokeswoman said: "We can confirm that a letter before action in relation to potential judicial review proceedings has been issued.

"The Olympic Park Legacy Company ran a very rigorous and transparent process in its selection of the recommended preferred bidder.

"We have been supported by independent experts in their field in terms of legal, financial, commercial and technical advice."

We are advised and believe that the decision to choose West Ham as the preferred bidder was properly taken”

City Hall spokeswoman
The spokeswoman added: "We have been consistent, fair, objective and entirely equal in our dealings with the bidders from start to finish.

"We are confident that if these judicial review proceedings are pursued, our approach will be entirely vindicated by the courts."

The UK government and the office of the mayor of London are joint owners of the OPLC and will both be involved in the court action.

They have four weeks to respond to the letter in writing, then Tottenham must decide whether to go ahead with the action by serving papers to the High Court.

The office of London Mayor Boris Johnson confirmed he had received a letter confirming Tottenham's action.

A City Hall spokesman said: "We are advised and believe that the decision to choose West Ham as the preferred bidder was properly taken."

Tottenham will be looking to challenge the process which the OPLC followed in making its decision to choose West Ham as its preferred bidder.

Judicial reviews allow bodies to challenge decisions on grounds of illegality, irrationality and unfairness.

Not a fookin leg to stand on - can´t believe they are resorting to this - looks nothing but desperation - a laughing stock frankly

The simple truth is (and I said this a while back) is Spurs cannot afford to build a new stadium from revenues and their sugar daddy billionaire has said he wont pay for it.

Just proves again how lucky we are.

I don't know the logistics of the area or WHL, but if there's no room for a new stadium in Tottenham, could they have requested to share the Olympic Stadium for a season while the current WHL overgoes a massive renovation?

or why not just share the Olympic Stadium with West Ham permanently?

Two very different visions and they would have to revenue share AND keep athletics for that - logistically very difficult.

but surely even if revenue had to be split, it would increase playing in an 80k stadium? Groundsharing isn't that foreign of a concept around the world.

Club statement

30 March 2011

At this stage the Club has not issued any proceedings against the Olympic Park Legacy Company (the OPLC) or any other party in respect of the decision regarding the award of the Olympic Stadium.

The Club’s lawyers have written letters to the OPLC, the Mayor of London, the Minister of Sport and the Secretary of State for Local Government and a separate letter to the London Borough of Newham raising a number of concerns with the processes which led to the award.

The letters also requested - in the interests of transparency - for the provision of certain information concerning the processes, which the Club considers that it is entitled to.

Tottenham Hotspur will determine its next step as and when it receives a response to these letters.

To be honest mate that is even worse than just going for a full judicial revue

Its either some form of blackmail/leverage attempt hoping for public money to support your alternative plans, or simply looking for a way back from the inevitable.

The whole thing is just cock up after cock up. Why are these cockney twints so useless at organising anything. Wembley = untolled rip off in a shit area with no transport links.
Stafford could have easily been designed to be used by either or both clubs with retractable seating from the out set, but the stupid southern based morons fuck it up again costing the tax payer shits loads to such an extent that we will give a premier league club an intrest loan to help them move whilst keeping all revenues from selling their own ground.
Simple solution would be for spuds to move to upton park. That would be really popular with the natives.
