Spurs (H) Post Match Thread

One little thing I would point out , after another great performance. The free kick when Kane hit the bar, I would always have a six footer at the end of the wall, Gundogan even jumping couldn't reach it.

I am glad pep is going to work on penalties, hit it hard is the first criteria, know where you are going to hit it days before the game, and practice that penalty.
Who that man is, well, over to you pep.

Im not a fan of having a player lay on the floor (think it was Bernardo) behind the wall facing towards goal. If there is a rebound he has to get up and go to the ball, it gives the other team an extra player not being picked up.

Another great result and a solid performance. Gundo was insane. What a player he is. I also love Cancelo,s ball skills. His control off the ball is top class and his movement amazing with the ball. He has blossomed into a real gem.
I am pleased Stones and Laporte did so well defensively against dangerous opponents in Son and Kane. This leads me to believe with so many games to get through that we can rotate the back 3 every game safe in the knowledge it won’t cause any problems. For example away to Everton Dias and Laporte. Away to Arsenal Stones and Dias.
Foden was slightly below par, but only because in my opinion he was trying too hard to impress. Still what a player he is becoming. Raz is getting his form back too and Jesus is looking good. I have always admired Rodri and it’s good to see he is getting recognition at last.
All in all a solid performance from everyone. Onto Everton next. A tough game but I expect us to win 1-0. We have the ability to dig in and grind out results now especially in games like Everton away.

I thought that was as good as we have played all season. And we did it without our spine of Dias, Kev and Kun.

Rodri was magnificent, he shut down the space that Kane normally drops into and with Kane shut down, Son hardly got a kick, I rate Son highly as well but he was never in it. The way we closed down their counter attacking options was a Pep masterclass into how to counteract the counter attack.

Bernardo was like a duracell bunny, he was everywhere. His stamina and work rate is incredible plus he is so clever with the ball.

Defensively, we looked solid again, Eric looked like he had never been away. He is a Rolls Royce of a centre half, Stones looks as good as i have ever seen him. Cancelo and Zincho play more in midfield than as full backs, always available and always a threat.

Phil was quiet, but teams are very wary of him now, he has gone up another level this season and there is more to come.

And as i said elsewhere Gundogan Player of the Season. He is fucking walking it at the moment. Maybe David leaving and Kev being out has released him to play his more natural game. Jurgen Klinsman on ESPN was raving abut him and saying Germany expect him to be their main man now as he is that good. Thats some praise and its deserved.

Our roll continues, we must guard against complacency as we have a tough run of games, get through them with no significant damage and we are on our way to the title, a double, maybe a treble and possibly a quadruple.

Drink this in Blues, those dark days seem a lifetime away now, dont forget them though because if it wasnt for those days we wouldn't be having these days of days.

Great post.

How much of our new found defensive ability is down to that new assistant Pep brought in do we think?

Let's have it right Pep was never that arsed about the defensive element and famously once even admitted in interview we never practiced tackling or winning second balls.

The new guy might have played a huge part in all this but isn't getting any recognition blues.

Gundo didn’t look too pissed off, was still smiling, I’d guess it was a twinge and he’s playing so well he personally didn’t want to risk it. I’d be surprised if he played on Weds but reckon he will be back on the weekend.

Was interesting to see Stones step up and be the leader at the back, thought Laporte looked a bit shaky, he didn’t want to dwell on the ball and I reckon if you watched it back and counted the number of times he just put his foot through it and hoofed it aimlessly you‘d hit double figures. But hopefully getting the clean sheet and the monkey off his back of dropping errors against Spurs will make him feel better, I do expect him back on the bench against Everton though.
I think Gundo may miss midweek but be back for the weekend. Not long until Kev’s back and Phil can drop into midfield too so we should cope

He was a lucky boy yesterday, a thought we should have targeted him a bit more as he was giving it out to Jesus towards the end of the 1st half. Turns out Spurs were that shit it was pretty easy to despatch the 11 players they had on the pitch.
It was ok in the end but I thought not only is it obviously easier to play v 10, there was a real risk of that out of control weedy **** doing one of our players a serious injury. No action taken, no comment from Tyler and his pal should surprise me but it doesn’t

Shout out to laporte yesterday
Didn't have a lot to do. But the reverse fixture kane pulled him out of position too many times and looked like he lost his place on the back of that performance.
Hes not played a lot of football since then and he slotted back in there with easy
What a position to be in now with games coming thick and fast 3 world class centre backs to rotate
And Nathan Ake not too shabby either once he recovers
