Sell the players in bold

Therefore we will need 2-3 defenders, an attacking and defensive midfielder plus a striker

Midfielders we need another wide player, and a holding midfielder

Striker - a young forward in the Aguero mold...we already have a big target man to hold the ball up and Jovetic as well adds a different dimension but if Kun get injured we have noone remotely like him

-- Wed Mar 12, 2014 12:51 am --

You could argue also for getting rid of rodwell and richards but id still be tempted to keep both of them (esp RIchards)

Dunno about getting rid of Guidetti. Lad has talent, lets see if he can pave his way in Stoke.

I don't think Garcia will go, but Rodwell probably will. Why would we sell Richard Wright? Genuine question, as he is never going to get near the team but counts as homegrown right? I imagine the market for average English goalkeepers must be about to explode with big teams wanting to fill their second and third goalie spots with homegrown talent that will very rarely play, if at all.

While we're obviously serious about a centre back and central midfielder since we almost signed Mangala and Fernando, I imagine we might have a relaxed attitude towards new full backs. I think if we found a decent price for either a LB, RB or both, then we would probably do the deal and move on Richards or Clichy. Neither of them seem to offer us anything anymore, sadly.

Think Demichelis and Garcia will stay, expect Richards, Rodwell, Pantillimon and possibly Clichy to leave though.

No reason in selling Wright, he's a backup to a backup and homegrown and quite surely here with his experience. Pantilimon could leave and be replaced with another homegrown backup.

Getting rid of both Demichelis and Lescott means one or two CB's are incoming, i personally see Mangala as a perfect replacement and Rekik back to gain from Komps and Mangala, still quite a young line of CBs with Rekik, Nastasic, Mangala and Kompany.

Either Clichy or Kolarov out and we need to get someone like Luke Shaw who would fit the bill.

Barry/Sinclair out, not that important to replace them, hopefully Zuculini can step up for Barry and turning 21 in a month, no need to register him this year as he can be listed as B player if i remember correct. Sinclair was just a bad, bad miss. A real winger on the left side like Lavezzi would be amazing in my opinion.

Garcia is 50/50, no real need to replace or sell him as he's settling in now and basicly just a scapegoat. Rodwell is on his way out if sources are reliable, someone like Barkley or Hughes in, getting some experience and tutoring from Silva and Nasri would make him/them fit in nicely.

Dzeko and Guidetti wouldn't be that bad if we started playing with one striker. Especially if we are able to get Messi! ;)

Players to sell or who will leave by being out of contract

Out of contract
Gareth Barry
Joleen Lescott

To sell
Costel Pantillimon
Alexander Kolarov
Martin Demichellis
Javier Garcia
Scott Sinclair
Edin Dzeko

Not sure about Rodwell if he was fully fit all the time he could still be a useful player to City.

Fringe players to loan to other clubs
Ideally loans to other clubs in the Premier League (hopefully where they will get games frequently, unlike Gudetti currently on loan at Stoke). Maybe teams like West Ham, Aston Villa, West Brom or clubs that will get promoted would be interested in these. A year with a Prem. League club may tell us if they are going to be good enough (like when Joe Hart when to Birmingham)

Marcos Lopes
John Gudetti
Devante Cole
Emyr Huws

positions to buy players for and suggestions

A Goalkeeper
Any young keeper with potential from a lower division team (Alex McCarthy - from Reading perhaps ?), as we did with Joe Hart, or an experienced keeper near the end of his carerr. Both happy to be second choice for now.

A left back:
Luke Shaw from Southampton
A central defender:
Personally I would play Micah Richards as Kompanys' centre half partner, with Nastasic as backup but if not:
Eliaquim Mangala from FC Porto (may be fine but pricy at £ 38 million)
or
Ryan Shawcross from Stoke (maybe not an obvious choice for many who would simply say he is not good enough, but may do well alongside Kompany and in a better team, and is English and still relatively young and would be cheaper than Mangala)
or
Marian Sarr of Borussia Dortmund (a young German player)

A midfielder
Fernando from FC Porto
or
Lars Bender from Bayer Leverkusen
or
Paul Pogba from Juventus (although it appears he will stay at Juve, or of move go to PSG)
To cover for Fernandinho and Yaya Toure (the latter may be missing again for the African Nations Cup in Jan\Fen 2015)
Isco is talked about but dont we already have this type of player with Silva and Nasri

A forward
A difficult one if we keep Aguero, Negredo and Jovetic (and Jovetic stays fully fit and has a pre-season)
Suarez is the best forward out there but Liverpool would not sell to City or would want ridiculous money if they did.
Lukaku I think is not as good as many people think and again Chelsea would not sell to City if he was.
Fernando Llorente from Juventus ?
Álvaro Morata from Real Madrid ?
As with the suggestion of Shawcross, maybe thinking of someone many people would say is not good enough - Jordan Rhodes from Blackburn ?

Shawcross is far from good enough for us, another lescott. If we're not gonna go out and get a top cb we'd be better of playing rekik than getting him.
Rhodes would even be a downgrade on dzeko, and that's saying something. Probably premier league standard, but not anywhere near our standard.
And also would you really prefer to get rid of kolarov than clichy with the way they've been playing this season?

Well, I hope Txiki and co. are working overtime to find a CB and midfielder this summer!

I would sell Kolarov if we could get Luke Shaw, and keep Clichy as backup for Shaw. Even though Clichy has had a poor season this season, Kolarov has had 2 poor seasons out of the last three.

Also on the likes of Shawcross and Rhodes, there seems now to be a permanent train of thought amongst supporters that non British players are never as good as overseas players. Surely within the country there must be some good local players somewhere. Even much of our EDS team are overseas players. It makes me wonder about the scouting system these days.

Also Dzeko cost £ 27 million and yet although he has had some good spells, we have seen he often struggles to control a football and overall probably misses 4 out of 5 chances created for him,
