State Pension Increases

Honestly mate, I’ve been saving into a private pension for over a decade (I’m in my early 30s). Thought I was being the sensible one who would be laughing in my 60s. Now seriously thinking I could have just gone on holiday twice a year instead.

Anybody with any savvy would have fucked them off and got into property. I should have done the same but sadly didn't. It's too late now as they will kill that option off too.

Thing is if you just have the state pension, it will probably just about pay your bills when you get to retirement age (if it’s still around) the you private one comes in, of course that will be taxed as well, so make sure it’s decent because you’ll need to it to pay for your dementia home!

Hopefully I’ll have my house to pay for that! Such is the social care funding mechanism these days.

Are they really? Not all of them, many are still living in abject poverty. If they were, so fucking what? They've worked hard, many of them have paid their taxes and national insurance for over fifty years. Why shouldn't they have a few years enjoying life? Even with these "Massive increases" they're crying about it will only take the state pension up to a huge.....wait for it.....£11,500 a year. Hardly enough to live a champagne lifestyle is it?
You really need to do your research.

Numerous data sources will show you that current pensioners hold more wealth than any other generation in society.

Anybody of pension age right now who only has the state pension to rely on as their only source of income only have themselves to blame assuming they’ve been physically and mentally healthy throughout their adult life.

They must have been feckless and irresponsible in the extreme to have not taken advantage of the numerous and varied opportunities available to them throughout their working life to have failed to accumulate wealth and income and provide themselves with a very secure retirement.

I wouldn't describe £11,500 a year as "abject poverty"... I'm currently getting by just fine on £6,000 a year.

It's the media and government way they have to demonise somebody and it's usually pensioners, single mothers, people with disabilities and those on benefits.
If any pensioners are wealthy as old Jacko says, it's because they worked their bollocks off, paid off their mortgage and paid into a private pension. The reason they did that IS so they can have a comfortable retirement. If they just have a state pension they're fucked even with top ups.

People still ask me what I do for a living, either I look young for my age or they are calling me a cheeky bastard ;)

Maybe some people pass a café and see older people enjoying life after 50+ years of working and see them as pointless unnecessary people using resources they could have.

Hold more wealth I would suggest that’s in the house they live in, not exactly easy to get that money unless you sell up or use a dodgy equity release system. Maybe they want to hand it onto their kids who will be struggling through this shit show of life at the moment. Many on low incomes simply living from-week to week couldn’t afford to put money aside, some also probably just pissed it up against a wall. How do you live off £6k a year are you a budgie?

I get this all the time now, 54 and retired, you look to young to be retired, people think you should have a zimmer frame and colostomy bag to be retired, it’s plain wrong.

Ha ha maybe. I got chatting to a younger neighbour the other week and she was visibly shocked when she learned my age adding, " I thought you were at least ten years younger!" I'll take that.

Envy has always been with us. The funny thing is every single government lecture the population to look after themselves more, pay into private pensions, save etcetera then moan like fuck when people live longer and can afford to go on a few holidays a year.

There's nothing stopping them selling up and downsizing if their only valuable asset is their house.

Nobody has a right to an inheritance.

Living off £6k a year is perfectly achievable if you're mortgage free which I am, I wouldn't even say I live a frugal life on that, prudent perhaps but not frugal.
