Steaua Bucharest AWAY leg - useful info for travelling Blues

cheers isomcfc and cosmin, appreciate the info, looking forward to a beer in the old town next monday and tuesday, just need city to let us know when tickets will be on sale

I've heard Steaua will put the tickets on sale tomorrow at 19:45 pm. The cheapest ones will be around 10 £
Any idea how much will cost the tickets from City and if I want to buy at your stand how do I proceed?

Not sure, but isn't the game being played at the Arena Nacionala? That's on the east side of Bucharest whilst the Palace Hotel appears to be to the west next to the Stadionul Steaua.

Yes pal you're right - nothing wrong with the hotel above BUT crucially the game is being played at the National Stadium and NOT Steaua's traditional home ground in Ghencea.

The national stadium is in the EAST of the city, and the Ghencea stadium is kind of south west ... Plenty of hotels in and around the city such as usual familiar chains such as ibis for example. As it's so cheap to travel in a taxi or metro, I wouldn't be too bothered about trying to get a hotel near to the stadium itself. In my opinion most Blues will want a drink and some good food, so a hotel in or around the Unirii, Universitatie areas for example, means you're close to the old town and a short metro ride away from stadium, or at worse a £4 taxi fare! So when choosing a hotel I'd get one in the city centre, and not worry about being far from the stadium.

Cheap budget hotel is the ibis parlatul parlamentului for example at approx £30 per night or if money no object the Intercontinental at £90 per night is a good one (with best casino in Buc located within) - both are centrally located and near the 'old town' for bars, food etc... and again both are on metro link, and no more than a fiver from the stadium.

I know most probably know of this website, but booking.com is a great site for searching for hotels, prices, location etc... Then either book on that site, or as I do, find a hotel I like, then find their own website and book there, as it's usually cheaper that way ;)

Question for the locals - is it worth getting tickets to go inside the Palace of Parliament? Looks impressive from the outside, but is there anything inside worth looking at?

If you get a chance then yes, absolutely, it's the second biggest government building in the world, behind the Pentagon, and well worth a visit, if only to take a picture outside the front of it.

Tours are regular (ask for english one) and it's around £8/9 quid per person plus a 30 lei (£6) charge to take photo's inside, but if seeing buildings is your thing, I'd say it's a must see if you're in Bucharest.

think I will stay in city centre ... either Mercure or Novotel
best places for good local scran?

Hanu Berarilor Casa Soare in the centre Unirii is well known for the best Romanian food, and a lovely place to eat.

Caru Cu Bere should also be first stop for anyone who likes food and drink when in Bucharest, again centrally located.

And run by the same people as the first one, Hanu Berarilor Casa Elena Lupescu is another centrally located place for traditional food, such as mici (which is like a meat sausage type thing, served often with bread and mustard, which tastes like a really good chargrilled burger)

You've also got many differing restaurants Italian, French etc, plus the western stuff like KFC, Mcdonalds, Subway and a Hard Rock cafe (but well north of the city, so probs not an option for people staying centrally)

Mecure or Novotel are decent hotels, so can't really go wrong there mate, enjoy !

You're welcome pal, should imagine we'll be allocated in the south/east CORNER on second tier of stand like Chelsea were a few years back, cracking atmosphere by the locals and a modern stadium. Can't see us taking more than 500 or so, should be plenty of tickets available and on sale by end of week surely, although I heard Chelsea received their's late due to Steaua not sending out promptly, so wouldn't be too surprised if it's last minute Larry !

Old town is perfect for a few cold one's and plenty of choices - just don't get sucked into any titty bars, as they are rip off, stick to regular bars such as Mojo, which is English owned, sky/bt sports and pound a pint !

You could well be correct, my mistake.
Still a great spa if it means taking the wife in order for you to get a "pass" to go to the match! :)

Sometimes you've just got to bite the bullet and do what it takes!!
