According to reports Manchester City have made a late move for Genoa midfielder Stephan El Shaarawy.

The youngster was understood to be on the verge of signing with AC Milan.

But Gazzetta dello Sport claim City are looking to trump the Italian club.

Milan have offered €6.5 million for El Shaarawy, but Genoa president Enrico Preziosi is believed to be waiting to see what City have to offer.

City have apparently assured Preziosi they can beat Milan's offer.

El Shaarawy is product of Genoa's youth system and is a versatile attacking midfielder. His main assets are his blistering pace and ability to unlock opposing teams with his trickery and clever passing."

I thought he was being exchanged for Merkel. I saw this a few days ago, and thought nothing of it since Mancio said Milan and Geno were exchanging Shaarawy and Merkel.

You would think so. I think Mancio will have a decent idea of what he is like, hopefully he will come on soon and enlighten us.
 
He's supposed to join AC tomorrow, this is a very late bid to snatch him if true. He'd fit our recent trend of signing some very young players like Assulin, Suarez, and Rekik. It could be a ploy by Genoa to push the price up late on or a real effort by us to get the lad?
