After watching BlueMooney's City Goals vids, I forgot just how good Ireland was, if he sorted his head out he could have been a great player to have around if Silva ever got injured.

Can't agree with you there matey...He was to lightweight, never dominated a game like Silva does...and Silva is a lot smaller than his...

in the one season he produced his undoubted potential and skill he was the box to box midfielder we had been looking for since Foe(r.i.p).

he had tenacity, drive, commitment, skill going forward in attack, midfield and defending!

for his own reasons he decided to blow all this away why well who knows?

Ireland is a superb player when his confidence is right. His problem is his mentality. But his footballing ability shouldn't be questioned. He took many a game by the scruff of the neck in 08/09.

I don't think he's a one season wonder, it's just that he was THAT good in 08/09, it's head and shoulders above his other seasons.

Give over, his 'one season' wasn't even a full season, he was dire over the xmas and january periods.

He was unbelievable in the 08/09 season. Shame it went downhill.

What I don't get is how the City fans are quick to slag Ireland off when he gave us a whole season of great performances yet when it comes to Michael Johnson - and his 5 or 6 good performances - we want to keep him as he's the next Gerrard.

Think I remember him scoring one last minute goal-Was it Reading? Other than that when the fuck did he ever turn a match on it's head, you know score a couple,TAKE A GAME BY THE SCRUFF OF ITS NECK AND SAY RIGHT i AM GOING TO WINTHIS FOR US....
Hull. Boxing Day. 5-1. Think he set up 3 and scored 1. Portsmouth 6-0. He ran the show that day. But yeah, not done much since.

Yeah, I wouldn't have him now. I just wonder if he wasn't fucked up in the head, he could have been a quality player to have.

He's too good a player not to get back to the top. Hopefully the change of management at villa is just what he needs.

Good luck to stevie Ireland .

Always liked him.

Hope he does really well and shows the quality he has........just not against City eh Stevie!

Good luck.

He can be amazing player in his prefer central midfield position in some circumstances but never seem to survive in pressing game if employed by opponent.
He will be up at his top form again when he is in right circumstance.
Wish him the best in his career.

Another subscribing to the myth of this entire season.

Hamburg?he was outstanding.

One thing bluemoon has shown me over the years is we have some amount of fickle fans.

Stevie was fantastic for us for a time and I hope he sorts his head out.

I have nothing against him and wish him luck in the future.

Once again though there is no doubt that mancinis judgement of a player and the decision to get rid was 100% correct.

One outstanding season in his four as a member of the first team squad. The rest of the time he was inconsistent and appeared to lack motivation.

He never helped himself with the wig, the undead Grandmothers, the Bebo profile etc.

Alex McLeish strikes me as being the kind of Manager who doesn't suffer fools and Ireland won't last a season under him if he doesn't work hard.

Lovely first touch and vision. Completely fucked up in the head.

That's a bit harsh. I think he's just thick and from a very simple background in rural Ireland. Access to huge amounts of money can change a person for the worse.
