Now living in Oz, I have been keeping a close eye on the under current of anger after Lee Rigby's horrific death on the streets of London..

Tommy Robinson was on Australian National TV the other night and his argument seemed hard to disagree with.

That may upset a lot of people as the EDL seem to be viewed as a facist/racist bunch of hooligans.
I have to say, he didnt come across as one. I know his past is dodgy (Not his real name, assault convictions etc..) but his points cam across as being pretty reasonable and passionate about the future of England.

in no way did he sound racist or extremist.

Then we got an interview with Anjem Choudray. He came across as a lunatic, nothing less.

Would like your thoughts from the homeland...

Was it an actual interview? As in, him been put on the spot and challenged about his views? Or was it that promotional video he puts about of his mate asking him pre arranged questions?

I would think that what he says is very much secondary to the actions of the group that proclaim to follow him. He isn't representative of them in a lot of respects, as at the very least he has the ability to put forward some kind of argument (even if it is full of holes). Most of the people in the EDL just want to cause racial tension and fight.

This is why he can never be taken seriously, no matter how convincing he might sound superficially. That's all it is, a superficial argument to support abhorrent acts.

He also has quite the ability for isolating statistics and numbers and turning them into arguments which don't follow, but sound good to the casual observer.

Faux news love him.

Fox News host Brian Kilmeade told the leader of a violent nationalist hate group that targets British Muslims, "We got your back" and "it's great what you're doing."

Kilmeade offered his endorsement to the English Defence League (EDL) and co-founder Tommy Robinson, who appeared as a guest on the June 10 edition of Kilmeade's Fox News Radio program. Kilmeade's support followed an interview in which Robinson railed against the immigration of Muslims into the United Kingdom, and warned of Muslims "forcefully putting us under Sharia" Law and planning a "silent takeover" to "implement Sharia" in his country and across the world.

Robinson (whose real name is Stephen Lennon) also said he didn't regret his recent conviction for using a false identity document to enter the United States to attend an anti-Islam event with anti-Islam blogger Pamela Geller. Robinson pled guilty and was jailed in January and released in February. Robinson's offense was not his first brush with the law.

Fox News has previously reported on the violent and fringe nature of the EDL. On August 28, 2010, America's News HQ anchor Gregg Jarrett noted there were "hundreds of extreme right-wing protesters rioting in northern England. Members of the so-called English Defence League tossing bottles and rocks at police in the city of Bradford. There's the map. Police penned the group in, keeping them away from a separate rally headed by a leftist group. The English Defence League opposes what it calls the spread of Sharia Law and Islamic extremism in England. Police arrested five people, but there are no reports of any injuries."

Yes, actual interview. They announced him as a former football hooligan.
The show was pretty subjective, though it was mainly about that Choudray character.

They also showed some alarming footage of Muslims in London trying to enforce Sharia law on the streets of London by taking alcohol off passers-by..

Its hard to gauge it properly from over here, but Robinson definitely seemed to have a reasonable argument regarding Sharia law and the islamic extremists, his biggest point was that no-one could speak out as you are all terrified of it over there now.

Fair enough. Without seeing the interview it's impossible to really give an opinion on it. But he's just about got enough about him for me to be able to see why people with no prior knowledge of him or the EDL might consider him to have a view that's worth listening to. Especially if viewed alongside the opinions of the idiot Choudray.

I suspect the footage in London was the clip that was doing the rounds here a while ago of a couple of shitbags trying to bully very carefully selected members of the public, for their own egos and entertainment rather than actually trying to apply Sharia law. But again it may have been something totally different.

Why Always Ste said:
So the founder and leader of EDL is now not living in England?

haha, laughable...
The OP is now living in Oz, I think.
