Sterling’s contract - three year extension confirmed

The debate is whether he is a player who should be earning KDB type money in a new 5+ year contract after ONLY ONE good season, which occurred while playing in the best team ever seen in the Premier League (statistically)?

I’m not saying he should be dropped. I AM saying he is not the kind of player you put in the spine of your team and build around. He is not the most technically gifted player in the squad by a wide margin. Anyone who can’t see is, frankly, not worth debating any further.

Sorry, what does that say, anybody who doesn't agree with me is wrong and I won't entertain them any longer.

He had one good season and one excellent season btw, but don't reply as I don't want to converse with somebody that has a different opinion, more so somebody who is obviously wrong.

My sole derogatory remark about Sterling has been his lack of technical ability...ball control, finishing, kinesthetic sense...not that he has scored one of five attempts on a regular basis, usually from inside the 6 yard box, and occasionally from a bit further out.

Last season, he scored a basketful, to be certain, but how many did he miss? Is there another player in the country who EVERYONE thinks will not score on a one on one breakaway against the keeper? Sterling is looking for the type of contract that others have earned by their years of consistent, world class, performances. I don’t think he has done that. Rather, he had the season of his life in a team that laid on AT LEAST FOUR TIMES the goal scoring chances he actually put away, and broke team records that may never be bettered. In short, he had a good season.

I don’t think that warrants the type of contract City’s top, top players currently enjoy, mostly in the twilight of their careers.
I'm actually speechless that yet again the conversation is how many he misses, all the best strikers miss and he is not a striker, also no-one knows what he is asking for or how much the club are offering,as i have said many times his agent is doing his job starting high,i'd fire him if he took the clubs frst offer.in summary the kid can't win with the media and a section of blues

Are you saying he's wrong?

I don’t bang my head against the wall, either. Should I?

Yes, I think we should pay Sterling a better deal maybe not all the way up to KDB level but not far off.

The reasons for this have been mentioned several times in this thread but it basically boils down to this...

Go and find a 20+ goal a season winger that also had double digit assists and try and get some change back from 100m and the 350k a week they will be also asking for.

Sterling has all of this in his locker, knows our system, added advantage of being home grown.

That is all that matters, his performances for us have been excellent, so he misses a couple of easy shots but again the stats figures go onto debunk the claim that he is outrageous in that department as well.

So technically he isn't the best in this squad but he untecnically put the ball in the back of the net at crucial moments last season and delivered when it mattered.

Now if you don't agree with this I don't want to talk to you again.

Karen,

My words, as is often the case (and it wouldn’t be an internat forum if it didn’t happen) get twisted, changed, or imply things they never implied.

I want to keep Sterling, because I think that Pep can make him so much better than he already is. I also think that he had a very good season last time around, no argument there. My ONLY beef was originally with the people who espouse “give him what he wants” when the general sentiment was that he wants to be on the top of the pay scale with Sergio and KDB. I disagree with that, and have given my reasons why I feel it is undeserved AT THIS POINT. if he is still here at the end of this next contract, and doing the business, then he will be 28, at the peak of his career and considerably more entitled to believe he deserves a top tier contract. No problem.

What ever? Bit harsh.

You wasting your breath, if he didn't read the stats on the other page there is no point talking to him, "he scores all his goals from inside 6 yards and occasionally from a little further out", that is all you need to know about the person you are dealing with.

Now let me watch this tap in again.
