I am saying he is in the top 4 players we have just now based on contribution. Not sure Pep does spines, or builds a team round any one player - all of our best players will be rotated regularly. He should be paid accordingly - probably not the top tier that Aguero is on but certainly one of our top 4 or 5. The English factor and his age are further justifications.The debate is whether he is a player who should be earning KDB type money in a new 5+ year contract after ONLY ONE good season, which occurred while playing in the best team ever seen in the Premier League (statistically)?
I’m not saying he should be dropped. I AM saying he is not the kind of player you put in the spine of your team and build around. He is not the most technically gifted player in the squad by a wide margin. Anyone who can’t see is, frankly, not worth debating any further.
