Sterling’s contract - three year extension confirmed

I don't think it will be that clear cut.

After January they'll be making proper efforts to find a replacement and clubs interested in buying him, maybe negotiations with Ward will stop, but because or the large cost of replacing him and the fact Pep wants him to stay if possible, there'll probably be a contract offer on the table until pretty much the moment he leaves.

The danger is someone just offers a silly amount of wage. Look at what the rags are reportedly paying Sanchez. Real Madrid or whoever could get him on a free or for £25m next Jan (20) and pay him £400k a week. Still a bargain. More and more players are going to hold out for this type of deal. Players hold all the aces.

That's not a danger you just sell him. Same thing other clubs do when we go after their players on shirt contracts.

Something we are not used to doing though. Sets a precedent. We have so far managed to keep pretty much every player we have wanted to keep. Not proving as easy with Sterling and after the start he has had to the season it could become more difficult.

If we want to keep him we just pay him! It's not that hard.
