Sterling’s contract - three year extension confirmed

The danger is someone just offers a silly amount of wage. Look at what the rags are reportedly paying Sanchez. Real Madrid or whoever could get him on a free or for £25m next Jan (20) and pay him £400k a week. Still a bargain. More and more players are going to hold out for this type of deal. Players hold all the aces.

I am sure Pogba and Sanchez thought this as did their agents. But They are maybe 're considering their position now. Long term a player with a little wisdom might consider 10 years at Manchester City might just be the best investment they could ever make.

I have a feeling he wants to move on when his contract expires. He was single minded and wasn't fazed about upsetting the Liverpool cult and media when he left there, though I doubt he knew the shit he got would be so bad, so he won't care if he upsets us. He has won the title and a couple of cups with us and has two years with Pep to add to that tally. He will still be young and I reckon he will want to test himself at Real or Barca.

I think he was single minded in leaving the dippers, because he wanted silverware. I personally think he’d be made to leave now, because who can set boundaries on the amount of success this squad can achieve, especially now Pep has extended. He could easily fall down a hole at Barca or Real, they would expect instant results, which he may not be able to deliver in a foreign game.

Not so sure a move to Spain would be good for him.

That surely depends on the motivation of the player. We have to remember that players do not always have the same affection for a club as fans and with such a relatively short career, some will want to rake in as much cash as possible.

We have little idea what camp Sterling falls in, but I guess we will find out in the next 12 months or so

That isn't the same thing.

He clearly plays Sterling as first choice, often, when everyone is available.

If he only plays 'technical players', then Sterling must be a 'technical player' otherwise, he doesn't only play technical players.

You can't have it both ways, or tbh, either way.

Pep plays him, because he's good enough & believes he can be better & wants him to improve, as he is doing, year on year.

He also tries to improve Aguero, Silva & KDB.
All true, but then that wasn’t the original issue, was it? The convo has morphed into whether Sterling is a good player....which I agree with. However, MY POINT was that if Sterling is asking for parity with the best earners, he needs to be at their level, and he clearly isn’t. The easiest way to describe this is that he is not nearly the finished article and his technical abilities, while improving, are FAR behind our top earners, and are some of the least finished of our entire team. Then, of course, the outliers jump in and he is compared to Walker and Mendy?! I think Mendy is more technically accomplished than Sterling, but that’s another issue!

Nasri may have flourished under Pep, but doubtful, because he appears not to have the desire to succeed in the way he could have done, but his technical ability was never in doubt. Can you say that about Sterling?

Look at what Pep has said about Silva and KDB’s work rate. Raheem certainly has that, but if that were the issue, then we would have cross country runners playing for us! It is PRIMARILY a matter of whether you have the technical ability to perform. Thereafter, and almost a given, is that you are fit enough to compete for 90 minutes. And, the finished article is the player that can compete at the highest technical level for 90 minutes, while being the hardest grafter in the team...a la KDB!

I agree and will not be overly upset if he does go....provided we get the £100m plus he’s worth

Just can’t see us getting anywhere near that figure with less than 18 months of his contract left. If he does go, think it will be next summer with just 12 months left.
