Sterling’s contract - three year extension confirmed

The more he plays for England the less he can ask for. Just as his reputation was being restored along came the World Cup. If he were to get greedy which I can’t see none of the elite would be willing to pay him top top dollar. His worth has reduced after two games of football.

You were doing so well till you went with sunday league player again, gossip is saying what he is demanding, gossip that puts the kid down as being a greedy **** like he was at the dippers which turned out to be nonsense, kev is older so raz is not at his level of contract and won't be demanding it i'm sure

Trust me, I’ve played Sunday League football, I’m not lying, plenty of players would have put away many of the open-nets he’s missed even at lower age football. Same with Navas, world class everywhere on the pitch but more often than not, woeful in front of goal. Sterling’s got better this season in front of goal and if he keeps his head down and converts more of the easy ones then we wouldn’t be having this debate. But until then, he needs to keep his head down, realise how good he has it at City and take what’s on the table.

I don't know abt that mate , The longer he runs his contract down he knows he will get top dollar anywhere else, and even City in the end would have to cave in and pay him than risk losing him for fuckall. Personally i think he'll sign a new extension with a decent rise.

I’m talking more elite level his pay rise will be very good but his stock has fallen somewhat. Last season he looked like he had started to rectify his glaring weakness. The end of the season and the England games have brought it back. Which is the real Sterling? He is like a streaky putter in golf he had a purple patch and we thought he may have cracked it but the yips are back with a vengeance. Must drive him nuts.

Of course it matters what he does for England hence why his agent said he'll wait until after the Penalty Cup. But that aside, he doesn't know his value for City because he's nowhere near KDB's level and City have rightly put him right on that. Don't get me wrong, he's a good player but there's a reason we're after another right-winger and that's because he's far too inconsistent. At his best, he's up there with the very best in the world and at his worst, he's worse than Sunday League level. If he was as good as KDB, would Pep have dropped him towards the end of last season? No. If he was at KDB level, would he have been dropped from our biggest game of last season? No. That sad, I hope we keep him but I trust Pep's opinion as to his value much more than Aidy Ward's.
Good post, Im not sure he's sometimes sunday league level but maybe A league level :)
Other than that I agree with everything you wrote.

Some of the stuff I'm reading here it would seem there are a lot of folks with short memories. Firstly he obviously doesn't deserve the same pay level as the likes of de-bruyne, silva or even aguero and if that's what him and his team are demanding then the club is absolutely in their right to tell them where to stick it. As good as he's been the past 2 seasons he still has some way to go to achieve the level of consistency in high level performances the players I've mentioned have to be in the same pay rate as them.

That said for the past 2 seasons(yes including pep's 1st) he has been amongst the top 3 at worst 5 performers for the team on a consistent basis and last season he was a key reason for that record-breaking campaign and no amount of rewriting history to undermine him will change that. Did he miss some sitters that most decent players should be putting away yes, does that take away the fact that it was him who was in the right place at the right time to score the winning goal against bournemouth in the last minute that lifted the teams' confidence on their way to a recorded breaking 18 winning streak, or that it was him that won the penalty for the equaliser and then forced the situation to grab the winner in a tough game away at huddersfield and then in the very next league game against southampton it was at his feet the ball fell to when he scored a winner with the last kick of the game all this during a very difficult set of fixtures for the team.

He also scored a difficult goal which was the only one and the winner away against newcastle. No other players' goals won more points for the side than him and he wasn't dropped towards the end of the season like a poster claimed, he only missed 1 of the last 9 league games and in the 8 games he played contributed with 3 goals and 6 assists, the other games he missed towards the end of the season including the cup final were all through injuries but let's not let facts get in the way though. He was also very consistent last season and never went more than 2 games without contributing a goal/assist to the team so I don't get where this 'inconsistent' tag that many have placed on him comes from.

Now I don't know what his demands are but if he considers himself to be amongst the most important for the team going forward then he is in his right to. Imo he shouldn't be too far off or at least be in the bracket below the top players I mentioned in pay purely for his importance and contributions to the team which he's proven the past 2 seasons. The club will look at that and judge what he deserves to be paid and I'm sure they will view it the same. What he did for the club will not vanish on the back of 2 games for england and if him or his people thought any performance he gave in the world cup would change how the club viewed his worth then he's mistaken. He can go on to win the golden boy award and it won't change their position on him even if he uses it as a contract bargain, the board will only look at what he has done for the club and can potentially do going forward.

You can think he is inconsistent, a supposed worse than sunday-league player on his worst days or that pep doesn't rate him, but all the evidence will point to someone who is viewed as a key first team player, one the club and manager values and want to keep for the long run and one whom the vast majority of his performances on the pitch have backed that over the past 2 seasons. That doesn't change because reports are out that he wants a pay rise and no conclusions have been met with the club yet or because he had a poor game for england in a tournament where I can count on one hand the amount of top players who have actually shown up. I'm certain the deal will get done soon but if it doesn't then good luck to him whatever he decides, the club will move on to many great things in the future with or without him

Sterling is not close to the level of KDB / silva / Kun in my eyes, he wouldn't be even in the top 5 performers for last season great achievement.

He scored some very important goals e.g. Bournemouth away. But what he missed ( burnley away ) also cost points. People often say if sterling wasn't playing we would not have had that goal, but if he didn't play and a better player was in his boots we would have performed to a better level.

Raheem clearly needs the players around him at city in order for him to perform, there are quite a few players that would have the stats he has and they have had this fantastic team around them.

Had there not been talk of a new contract we wouldn't be discussing his performances as we are, but his agent wants a higher paid contract and he shouldn't be demanding it. We don't know for sure what Raheem gets a month but from the figures we see, his wages are high enough. Fed up of the players that cant leave because other clubs cant afford their wages, start paying Raheem more and we are going to be in that situation and other players will demand more to.

Not saying he should go at all, just saying realise in himself that he is lucky to be at this fantastic club with world class players, winning trophies, playing CL regular, parading on buses and earning a dam good wage as he is. Start being greedy because of the b******t agents and you could damage your career.

Yeah I think his agent should go into these discussions and not try get his client as much as possible.

Pep dropped him (rightly so imo) towards the end of Pep’s first season here when he decided to play 4-5-1 hence why he started the FA Cup semi-final without him. He also dropped him for the Champions League game at Anfield this season.

He missed the last 2 games of the league in a season with nothing left to play for and even though his form admitedely went down towards the end of that season, if that is what constitutes him being 'dropped' then fine. As for this season, it was clear he was only dropped in the first leg against liverpool due to the anfield factor which pep could tell affected his game. He still started him as the main striker in the second leg at home. If the one game he missed against liverpool at a ground he had previously struggled at is the reason you're giving that pep didn't see him as important against countless other big games last season where he started then its a poor one.

He's finished in the top 3 in the fans player of the season in each of the last two seasons so I'd suggest it's in your eyes as well. KDB dropped off by a mile towards the end of last season, Raz was as good as or better than anyone else in the squad over the season as a whole. Silva and Aguero missed too many matches to be considered vital, Sané inconsistent, Dinho cost us badly in the CL, Bernardo couldn't nail down a starting spot, Jesus went through a couple of rubbish patches. Sterling did it from matchday 1 to matchday 38.

We had the FA cup to play for. Anyway, the point is not that he’s not an important player. The point is that he’s too young and too inconsistent to be one of our top earners, an opinion hinted at by Pep’s team selections and something corroborated by our failure to meet his agent’s demands. He should take what’s on the table and focus on earning as much as KDB by being as good as KDB.

Pay him what he deserves, delivered big time last season. If he can get the 1 v 1 thing sorted we're looking at a 40 goal a year player. It's not my money City are spending.
