Sterling’s contract - three year extension confirmed

In this sea of misinformation it's anyone's guess what's going on, Sterling might like the chance to get away from the English media, who knows.

The only thing we do know is Sterling With Pep has been outstanding, Sterling before Pep outstanding in patches, he's a player that needs to be coached to get the best out of him and there's none better than Pep.

Considering how vital he was last season, I imagine we have no intention of letting him go. It's probably Sky Sports exaggerating a minor disagreement because they know that negative articles about Sterling get clicks.

Ask yourself this:
1) Where could he go where he'd be paid more handsomely than here?
2) Where could he go where he'd have a better shot at winning trophies while playing regularly than here?
3) Where could he go where his quality of coaching and chances of getting in the England side will be better than here?

I'd be baffled if he wants to leave. I assume Sky Sports are being Sky Sports again.

It'll be about the money.

He'll want to be paid like Aguero/KDB, City will rightfully say he's not done enough to deserve that yet, it's just 1 season and he slowed down at the end. We can't just give out those wages for 1 amazing season or in 12months time there's a good chance Jesus & Sané demand the same.

So the smart thing for Sterling to do is delay, try and have a stand out world cup or return to City and follow up on last season with another 25 goals and then he will be deserving of Aguero/KDB money. If he hits 15 goals and a bunch of assists by Christmas they'll pay him whatever he wants. If he starts poorly, he'll lose all leverage and probably settle for what the club are offering.

The problem is he's on the cusp of becoming one of the best players in the world, and City want to tie him down to a lower salary before that happens, while Sterling wants to be paid like a superstar before he is one.

There is certainly a whiff of the media seeking to stir it and or disrupt the lad, not even because the world Cup is starting, but because they can and want to. I am fiercely protective when it comes to sterling due to the attention he has incurred which has been prolonged, unfair and arguably driven by a racist agenda. However, if and when the lad decides to move on be it psg. Madrid, whoever, I would not have one issue with it at all. With the exception of milne who took the piss, I don't think City do the whole utd, Liverpool death threat shit when key players want to move. Its something that I have been quite proud of and has given me a stick to beat utd and fans with over the years. It's likely that he will stay but if he was to move, good luck to him, he would have deserved it after the season he has just given City.

There's an obvious problem with that game though. The distraction.

Hopefully he has a stellar world cup and we give him the money.

Well poles apart must mean he wants at least double what he is on now which is around 150k

Really? Rather an assumption - & one that presents him in a negative way. He might just want parity with other players.

Nobody actually knows.

I think everyone involved is professional enough it won't become a distraction. I don't believe either party wants this to end in anything other than Sterling getting a big fat new contract, just has to show he's worth it.

Agreed. If any player can deal with the media pressure it's Raheem.

I'm not sure actually. Didn't Sterling say he wanted to go abroad at some point of his career? And with the media in UK......maybe he fancies joining Madrid/Barcelona?

He mentioned in passing when asked if he'd like to play abroad that he wouldn't mind playing somewhere with nice weather.

It's hardly Gareth Bale's lifelong dream of playing for Madrid.

cant see sterling ever playing for barca or real, I doubt they are interested, just agent talking shit.

There are quite a few world class players that play in that position that barca or real are more likely to go for, sterling is not even a dead cert starter for England so it shows how far down the pecking order of world class he is.

I am not against sterling at all, just annoyed at him asking for more money via his agent. He should not be on above 200k per week, he is no where near the key player as KDB / silva / Kun are.

I think he knows himself that his best career stance is to stay under pep at city, try and go for money and a move will see a slide downhill.

He is not as good as sane, if mahrez does sign and we see the three of them rotating he will need to be on top form to get a decent share of games.

Id be pissed off if city offered 250k and 5 years.. His stats looked good this season, think the whole team showed good stats and rightly so with over hundred goals and 100 points :-)

I reckon it's the breakfast, poundland and greggs clauses that are holding the deal up.

Sterling has to improve a lot with his finishing. If he can sort that side of his game out then he becomes an all round different prospect & would then probably warrant an improved contract.

Absolute nonsense, the media are going in hard on him, setting him up to be the fall guy at the world cup,he loves it here and always said he will sort it out after the world cup, another negative for him before he leaves for the cup
